new to celestia

Post #1by jackmatt » 30.05.2007, 15:56

wow what a cool program, I just had a quick question.

If I want to find objects like nebulae, black holes etc. do I need to install plug ins for them specifically or am I searching for objects in the wrong way.

For instance, I was looking for the crab nebula, so I went to 'go to object' and typed in 'crab nebula' the dialog box disappeared but it didn't take me to it. Should I input something more specific or does the program not contain these images.

Thanks very much

Matt

There is not yet 3D rendering in Celestia, so the nebulaes are here but not visible. For now you can download some addons at ML, most of them bilboards...

The current version of Celestia does not include any nebulas, although it does have many galaxies, stars, solar system objects (planets, comets, etc) and a few spacecraft.

You'll need to install some Addons in order for Celestia to display nebulas. Some are available on the MotherLode at http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/

A Web search for the keywords
celestia addon
will find quite a few more.

Have fun!
