[Feature request]provide better view from heart

Hi, i like celestia a lot.
But these nights in my italian sky :D there is a star appearing at its maximum light :)
i'd like to know which this star (or planet) is, but with celestia navigation from heart is difficult...If i centre italy and click ctrl+g (go to surface), i should see the nightsky and move "my head" from south to north and from west to est but...doing it the heart moves in a strange way and i finish to see the grass....and never find what i search...
i think it could be better if going to surface the user is blocked with his feet and with mouse can move only "the head"...
then, the autolight does not make the star see as i can see them really from the heart. you can do it.
finally, i use constellations for understanding where i am seeing but it could be better with the cardinal point written in the horizon :)

i hope to help you. i love your work.
tell me if i was useful or not, i will appreciate your answers

Please read the Preliminary Users FAQ. It is a "sticky" near the top of this (Users) forum.

Especially see Q/A# 19

0) Select the body from which to observe; the Earth maybe
1) use the GoTo menu to specify your Longitude and Latitude and GoTo there
2) type a y = Sync Orbit
Under Windows:
3) type a Ctrl-G = GotoSurface
4) type a Ctrl-F = change Arrow keys to AltAzimuth mode

Also,

Select Render / View Options / Celestial Grid
It draws coordinates on the sky and blue lines at the compass points.

that doesn't help so much because the horizon moves in a strange way when clicking for choosing the point of view (i.e. South, North, etc)
that was my suggestion :)
thanks forever

I think he's asking for some more reference points when on the planet. To be honest, I've got confused sometimes on the surface in Celestia because I have no clue where north or south or east or west are...

more than that...
try to go on the earth, on the surface of your location...then double click any object on your right or left...the horizon will go obliquous....so it is impossibile to use celestia as the real reference when working near a telescope or so... i think you should work on that...

It was never meant as that kind of application. You might want to check out Stellarium, it is an Earth based, planetarium software.
