I am a brand new user of Celestia so please excuse me if the answer to thsi question is somewhere in an FAQ or a manual somewhere. If you point me to where I will gladly read. I can accept the "RTFM" response with a little help.
I would like to be able to go to a specific star from within Celestia and I'ld like to know how to do so.
The star I'm looking for is Maia. It's a tiny star located at R.A. 03h 45m 49.6s, Dec. +24?° 22' 04"
I am not an astronomer and have little knowledge of the details. I have a friend named Maia and we'd like to be able to get to this star on our screens.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may provide.
How to go to a specific star?
Derek,
You do need to read the manual
http://celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/d ... ation.html
There's a French translation for Celestia v1.3.1, which will help, I think.
To GoTo an object can be done in many different ways.
The easiest way is to type a [return]
and then the object's name
and then another [return]
to select that object.
Then type c to center it if you want.
Then you can type g to GoTo the object. (It doesn't even have to be in view when you start Going to it.)
These commands work for Maia.
Maia is not so tiny a star: it's one of the brighter stars in the Pleiades cluster.
