Adding an island to Earth

Hey there, would anyone be able to give me an idea of how I'd go about adding my own island to Earth?

I don't mind modifying a little island that already exists on my map by Jestr, I just need to know how I go about doing it down to a really close level.

The best way to know is to start with the documentations written by Bob Hegwood and Selden about VT (Virtual textures)

And at last you can download a "little" close-up texture at this address

So, you can examine how the textures are.
