How to use national language terms for planets, moons ... ?

Hello,

Celestia is a real pleasure to use and discover for me and my 6 years old son.

Since he is an absolute fan of Celestia and journeying through the solar system and the universe, I try to help him (he is learning to read and write). This is where I have a problem.

Being french, it is not easy for me to explain to him "If you want to go the the 'Lune', just type in 'Earth/Moon' !"

So I decided to translate all 'ssc, stc, cel, celx ...' data files with french names so that my young astronaut could directly use 'good' french terms for example 'Amalthee' instead of 'Amalthea' and so on ...

I vaguely feel that this is a stupid and time consuming process and I guess that there might be something more intelligent to do... I tried to find some help in various places, read different docs but found nothing that I could use or understand.

The problem is that once you begin translating ssc files, you simply never stop ! Isn't there a kind of repository file for names somewhere in celestia folders ?

Is there something like an aliasing mechanism in Celestia allowing to refer indifferently to 'Earth', 'Terre', 'Erde', 'Terra' ... without having to change all data files ?

Thank you for any kind of help or info.

I very much regret that I did not have the chance to have Celestia (and a computer !) forty years earlier !

Albert.

Salut Albert, bienvenue...

You should speak with Christophe a french user who create a complete French translation of the soft; the problem is that I think it's a linux version. What you are asking for is unfortunatly not yet implemented and this topic of internationalization is not a simple problem...

Forwarding the problem, this can be a good pretext to teach your kid several languages at the same time!! Kids are so receptive...

Indeed, almost complete translations including names of planets and moons are implemented in the kde-linux version of celestia. You need a very recent version (CVS or the FT test release mentioned in another thred), french and german should be quite complete.
