how about /animating/ your Aurora along the lines Runar made his animated sun flares!!?

Would be real fun.

Of course... Umm... What program do I use to do that? And I save it as a .gif, right?

Also, my computer's one of the not-so-evolved ones, I tried the 8k earthmap once, completely froze my computer. :cry:

So the animation will probably be quite lo-res.

I had a go at it

Code: Select all

"aurora1" "Star/Planet"
{
Mesh      "th_placeholder.3ds"
Radius      3000
Emissive   true
Oblateness   0.8
   EllipticalOrbit

      Inclination   90
      MeanAnomaly   90
      }

Atmosphere {
   Height      0
   CloudHeight   10
   CloudSpeed   10
   CloudMap   "aurora.png"
      }
RotationPeriod   0.010

}

"aurora2" "Star/Planet"
{
Mesh      "th_placeholder.3ds"
Radius      3000
Emissive   true
Oblateness   0.8
   EllipticalOrbit
      {

      SemiMajorAxis   5800

}

To apply it you have to tweak the semimajoraxis a little bit, to match you planet's size. :D

Nice. We already have a great aurora/clouds texture for Earth by Don Edwards -Since Earth Central is in reconstruction, its different formats are avaible on the Motherlode- Jeam

Look at this amazing evening light! It won't be long until it's going to be pitch dark again...
