How Celestia changed your life?

I know it may sound silly, but... how Celestia changed your life? Despite of the apparent stupidity of such a question, it is not that stupid if you see it in the right angle. I'm gonna explain.

When I was a kid, I just loved Star wars, and I used to dream about the stars. On July 1991, I witnessed a solar eclipse, one of the most fascinating experiences on my life.

I dreamed with the reruns of Carl Sagan's Cosmos.

As I grew up, my life became more immediate, more focused on what happens next, in a box called home, a box called work, a box called vacation. I have seen may unfair things done by people and I slowly started to quit dreaming.

The crisis of USA in 2003 brought unemployment in USA, and later in other countries which depended on USA. That's how I lost my job, thanks downsizing (unlike Japanese who don't do downsizing, they ask employees to buy and sell products to help the company). So life became another box called "no money" and since then I have had to be part of small projects to survive and pay the bills. It was a 2D life filled with boxes.

After I downloaded Celestia, I still stood in such a boxed life for a while. But slowly, I realized that my life was 2D. I forgot to look to the sky. Today I realized that the moon was there when I went out from home, something that would go unnoticed otherwise.

Now I question "is that all?". Survive and pay the bills? It that the reason why I am here? Money?

I recalled a time when I had dreams, when I used to believe in people. I realized about the existence of 3D. Even the scifi arts I've made weren't the product of a 3D life, but remnants that surfaced from a 3D era that was long forgotten, it came from an inner world, not a 3D view of the universe.

So I guess my life was a bit changed by Celestia. I may live in this very life, but it is not 2D, not boxed, and I saw the need to rescue the fascination I used to feel. It is told that the purpose of Celestia is educational, and in a way it educated me first.

I realized how much we need to be educated before we educate someone else.

By the way, I downloaded the first set of educational activities. It's just cool, state of the art, but it erased from the object browser all the addons I had installed. I guess I need to reinstall after I download all those activities.

I know I haven't been too nice in the forums, but now I guess why. And if this is stupid, then it may be stupid, but celestia changed my life a bit.

How Celestia changed your life? Or was it just another software on your HD?

Everyday I worry that the same thing will happen to me!
I have dreams, hopes and a will to live, but I'm too fucking lazy
to do anything...

I want to be a sci fi writer/illustrator and am working hard at it.

About a couple years ago I realized that the word impossible didn't exist. A guy I met achieved what I thought it would be impossible.

Since then I started to do things to make some dreams come true. The first one was the publishing of my first comic. In my country it was the first 3D comic ever. A scifi comic.

Now, with Celestia I discovered my life was too 2D. Focused only on down to Earth matters, not caring enough about the wonders of life, or even other people.

I don't think I'm a hero. Else I'd be Superman. I was underway with my dreams, but I realized that the focus was wrong. I was focused on money, instead on people. May be due to the fact of having some "financial challenges" right now.

So it wasn't lack of dreams, but dreams with some misdirection. An important misdirection.

Interesting thread. I think all of the folks on the forum have had their lives changed by Celestia. I know I have. I now devote about 15 hours a week to it and to improving the Educational Activities that I developed.

In reply to your comment that the add-ons you downloaded are all "gone" from your Celestia browsers after installing an Educational Activity, the good news is that they are all still there on your hard drive. Celestia has simply been told to look in another folder for add-ons (the educational ones). To get to see all your other add-ons, locate the file in your Celestia folder called "celestia.cfg". That is the file that the Educational Activities changed. Open it using a text editor such as WordPad or NotePad. Look for a line that says:

ExtrasDirectories [ "educational-extras" ]

Change this to read:

ExtrasDirectories [ "extras" ]

Save the file and launch Celestia. Now, the educational add-ons will not display, and all your old add-ons will.

Let me know if you have any problems.

As I learned more through Celestia, it became overwhelming just how grand everything is.
As I try to follow the latest research on just just how the brain works, I am amazed at how basic universal physics is involved.
And I am wondering lately, is this Universe maybe inherently alive?

Thanks for the help. Unfortunatelly I made an HD clean up, before I read this. Anyway, now I know that.

Regarding human brain... I heard there is some project called "blue brain" to simulate human brain.

well for me back in 2001 , i could barly use a computer .(ie . i couldput a cd in an OLD win 98 box--from 1995-- with 300 meg disk and maby get it to work .

with a new box and the net I found celestia . I used this to keep my intrest and set some goales .Today i am hosting a web site and designing sites ,building programs with mingw ,vc++7 although i like linux/mingw better . my knoladge of opp.sys. is better, even if my SPELLING is not .I can wright html in my sleep and some php , a bit less c but i am getting there.
So with the help of celestia i got into Gimp , devc++ ,mingw,cygwin,html,php,c++, web desine ,hosting admin ,web security ,.Basickly i went from a computer illitorate to a computer neard , who by the way looks as if i belong on a Harley-Davidson with colors .
