Ugly textures with GeForce 3 videocard?

Post #1by benchMarc » 12.05.2005, 21:25

I'm quite new to Celestia and i've read the help document. The pictures i saw there were pics of a very detailled earth, and other planets. Hi-detail clouds etc. My clouds are fuzzy, with little or no detail.

I've uploaded a pic to make it more clear:

I checked all the settings in celestia, but couldn't find a way to boost up the textures. In my nVidia control panel i also set the quality to the max.

What can i do about this?

You might want to set your texture quality to something higher in the preferences, and you might want to download some higher quality textures from: http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/

benchMark,

Your picture shows Celestia's lores texture.
You can switch to Celestia's medres texture by typing a capital R

The highest resolution textures are "virtual textures". As Jules mentioned, some are available on http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/

What version of the Forceware drivers are you using? Make sure you are not using Microsoft's inplementation of the drivers as they are very OpenGL limited. Even if you are running NVidia's version of the drivers sometimes parts of the driver library get mixed and you end up with strange effects.
I would recomend downloading the latest Forceware drivers and installing them just to make sure.
Here are direct links to the newest Forceware Drivers from Nvidia
For Windows 2000 & XP
http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/71.89/71.89_win2kxp_english.exe
For Windows 98, 98se, ME
http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/71.84/71.84_win9x_english.exe

I hope this helps.

Thanks :) This was the solution. I overlooked that in the control-keys screen.
