Celestia and monitor resolution

Is there any difference in watching Celestia in 800X600 or 1280X1024?
The only real difference I saw is that the locs names are more separated.
Is there another difference I didn??t realize?
Maybe the planets and moons seems bigger? At least its features...

There's a big difference. Textures seems better. The larger the resolution, smaller will be the pixels, so the texture look more realistic. I do normally use 1280x1024. It looks better than 800x600
One day we will swim in the subsurface ocean of Europa and take shower in ethane lakes of Titan.

Danielj: what if your display were 4*3 pixels?
You would probably rather have 8*6, or even 16*12, etc...
Or am I misinterpreting your question?

Anyway. If you can't see the difference between 800*600 and 1280*960 you probably have a poor computer screen.

AHA!

So it's probably good for travelling. ;-) If 1280 pixels fit into a TFT terminal of 34 cm width, then 1 pixel would be 34 cm/1280 = 0.26 mm!

Hence the screen of your monitor is then 5x3 pixel^2 => 1.3 x0.8 mm^2. Really a handsome travelling format...

So,the bigger the resolution, smaller the pixel and more crisper is the image. Is that right?

Danielj,

More pixels = better resolution = higher quality picture. LCD panels don't have as good colors as CRTs have, though.

Usually pixel sizes are about the same, since they are determined by technology. More pixels typically means bigger sized screens. But certainly, the more pixels fit into an image the more details you can distinguish.

In case you have never seen some "pixels" here they are, specially for you ;-)

The above "pixel-queen" indeed exhibits some features of virtual Christina_A...
