Problems with exporting 3ds from C4D, LW, Blender

Specifically textures. It seems that the more advanced applications, which I typically use since I have no access to free/cheap PC apps (Mac user), seem to have more trouble exporting the right recipe of 3ds than the smaller ones.

Right now, I'm at least able to export the models, but they are either not textured at all (white) or are matted black silhouettes. All the textures are powers of 2 and JPEG, so that's not it. My current app (Cinema 4D) gives no options for exporting 3ds format. It just does it.

I basically just convert the existing model (.c4d, .lwo/s, .3ds, et. al) to the program's version of a 3ds file. I've perused these forums, many guides and FAQ, but nothing definitive as to how to get the textures to stick.

While I'd appreciate any useful tips, if all you're going to say is "I don't know of any way to do it with a Mac", then it's best you not answer at all. If, OTOH, you know there's no way, then that is different.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. - If anyone knows of any Mac OS X equilivants to Anim8or (et.al.), that would help a great deal more.

I had more or less the same challenges, and had to set up Virtual PC with Anim8or, to import the models there and clean them up. If you have a decent machine, it is quite possible to work that way, and Anim8or is better than any of the lighter OSX apps i ave found.

BTW, do you have the 3ds export script for Blender? I have searched everywhere for it, but the only download link i can find is broken.

Geez guys, why don't you use Cheetah3D ? It's a fully cocoa application with a nice Mac OS X interface. It's powerfull, and I'm doing some wonders with it ! Until now, it's by FAR the best solution I've found. I can make or edit almost any model and export it to 3ds, fully texturised, with transprencies, etc. It's a clean app.

No need for Virtual PC or the likes. Just get your hands on Cheetah3D.

This is the official page of Cheetah3D :

http://cheetah3d.com/

It's a shareware, however, so it's not free.

Thanks for the tip! I have been playing with it for about an hour, now, and yes, it looks good... Price isn??t bad, either! Well, that does it for Anim8or. I don??t understand how i have been able to miss this one.

Runar,

did you saw my Cyl traveler model I've shipped to you ? It was entirely made with Cheetah3D.
