Chris,
Colud this be posible or am I just hoping to much?
Comets as they apear now .______________________Comets with color corection. __________________________Comets with proposed Skinning Effect.
The posibility of skinnig comets would be a very nice feature to consider.

Skinning of Comets?
I am officially a retired member.
I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.
Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it
Thanks for your understanding.

When close to a comet, you could see huge polygons. Is there a way to have more polygons, so the comet can look smoother ? I don't care about reducing a bit the frames per sec.
"Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin", thought Alice; "but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in all my life!"

Don,
I love the color-correction scheme, but can you tell me what
the skinning effect represents? I can't remember ever seeing
a comet which looks like the skinned image in your picture
above.
Am I being Brain-Dead again? Can you explain what this
"skinned" process is supposed to represent? Sorry, but I
just don't understand this.
Thanks, Bob

A better idea for colour correction would be to have an extra piece in the .ssc file where you could alter the color of the comets, you could have the normal blue, colour correction, or any other colour then, here's an example:

Code: Select all
TailColour [ 0.12 0.87 0.65 ]

I'll get around to some improvements for comets. Some adjustment of the color is in order, as is a volumetric rendering scheme that makes the comets look like comets instead of smooth, translucent shells. So, the answer to Don's questions is that yes, I'll do something about the color; and, no, I don't plan to make comets skinnable, but the volumetric rendering will look better than any triangle mesh, especially at close range.

Is volumetric rendering supported by the Geforce FX?

That's great idea Chris, volumetric rendering would look good on the comets and realistic.
