I'm sure it is.... any chance of a jpeg format please ? I can't open .dds files so I don't think it will work in Celestia.

So you have it. I have uploaded png version of the texture.
If you are able to see this picture you can download:
ftp://ftp.dasmirnov.net/upload/celestia%20textures/t10.jpg

The 11Mb zip is here. For now ;):
ftp://ftp.dasmirnov.net/upload/celestia%20textures/EarthNew4k__PNG.zip

Enjoy,
Pixel.

Pixel : Thank you very, very much ! That's a beautiful texture.... I only wish I could get reflected sunlight in the oceans.... it should be possible since reflected light is visible in the 3D models..... ah well, can't have it all. Thanks again !

You didn't include the file you are using for your clouds, which is the bit I'm most interested in :O)

Hey guys I've moved the files Pixel uploaded into: ftp://ftp.dasmirnov.net/astronomy/celes ... res/pixel/

Remember guys if you wanna bung stuff up there if you log on as: 'Celestia' pass: 'upload' you go straight to the celestia dir and have write access so you can upload files there rather then into the junk folder (errmm the general upload dir rather).

Thanks...

In order that we do not have to argue for ever whether your card does it or not, why don't you just dump the openGL info that is displayed for your card when you click help->openGLinfo in the menue.

Then we can simply tell...

Is anyone aware that none of these pictures / links work?

I'm looking for bigger/better textures but it's really hard to find them!

Yo Pixel, love what you did, but a few questions:

how did you get the blue marble?
How big is it?
can't you make a earth16k blue marble file?

Thanx

I used the two 21k Earth hemispheres maps.
East hemisphere is 410Mb tif file and West
hemisphere is 246Mb tif file. I concatenated
them (using my programs) to get complete 43k
Earth = 1km/pixel. And then scaled it down to 16k.
The big BM can still be found here:
ftp://visibleearth.nasa.gov/pub/EARTHVIZ/
i already use 16k Erath. The 4k, 8k, 16k Earth variations can still be downloaded from Smirnov's site:
ftp://ftp.dasmirnov.net/astronomy/celestia/textures/pixel/

The 16k earth is quite different from the new 4k earth you posted here lately. The latter one is the blue marble right? Or is the 16k BM as well, just different filters?
The land shallow topo 21600.tiff, what kinda file is that?

The new4kEarth i posted here is not BM version. It is modified hires texture from OpenUniverse's 10k earth texture. The 16k Earth is pure BM (no filters at all).
land shallow topo 21600.tiff is a single(complete) 21k version of BM Earth, but Fridger told me it has less quality than stretched down 43k combined texture.

ehm i downloaded them yesterday, now checked the ftp and they are really still there. go to the pub visibleearth dir, anonymous login.

Respect for you pixel :) cuz working with those files must be a pain in the ass, took me 10 minutes to open the 400 megabyte file in photoshop. Then wasnt able to create a canvas bigger than 30000 pixels. In the gimp it's possible, but you get a file that's 3135 MB whaaaaaaaaaaah!!
I dunno, but here it was quite impossible to work with, cuz no more than 512 meg ram and no scsi drive :( or 4x 15000 rpm scsi raid, that's what you'll need for this job!

I also wasn't too excited about the difference between the big map compared to the 16k. The difference wasn't that big and noticable.

i have 256Mb ram, but for this monster i don't use PS nor Gimp. I use my programs plus one good old dos utility - ImageAlchemy wich is capable to process image files, without load them to ram. In fact Celestia is only utility i have, that can display the whole 16k for me. But dxt compressed.

Sorry - I got them now, I used mozilla and it didn't show those file for some reason. Ftp client shows them fine.

I too think those textures are GREAT!!!

Thanks
