Galaxy brightness and density

Post #1by saturnv5 » 14.11.2004, 04:02

I was just wondering, is there a file in Celestia that I can modify of make galaxies more brighter and more dense? Shouldn't it become brighter when you increase the magnitude? :?

Thanks in advance

saturnv5,

You can only alter the textures that the galaxies are based on. Celestia doesn't yet allow to modify the magnitude for galaxies or nebulas. Only stars are affected.

Depending on your video driver, you might be able to find a configuration menu where you can temporarily increase the video gamma level.

For instance, in Windows 2000 the nVidia control panel found in "Display Properties->Settings->Advanced" has a "Color Management" panel where you can adjust the gamma. If I want to see the galaxies properly, I just push the gamma way up, then switch back to Celestia where the galaxies will now be readily visible. When I'm finished I simply switch back to the nVidia control panel and restore the original gamma setting.

Cheers,
Paul
