Very good ideas of feature requests for Celestia 1.3.3v

For 1.3.3 version, it would be nice if chris could put multiple star systems support, a greenhouse code effect to the temperature of planets, multiple light sources support, an error message when two bodies collide, support to put stars in the same distance of other galaxies, support to put much more distant planets to their stars, correct the X spectral star and add two new stellar classes: The star type E for green stars and H for violet stars.

About the multiple light sources: I think that a code in ssc could permit a planet to be illuminated by multiple stars. The code could have the number or the name of the star to illuminate a body.

About the greenhouse effect: I think it is necessary to put a code determining the temperature of the planet based on a greenhouse effect code value. This code could be similar to the albedo: 0 for no greenhouse effect and 1 to the maximum greenhouse effect temperature on a planet.
The value 0.07 is for a planet with small atmosphere like mars, 0.15 for an atmosphere similar to the Earth, 0.2 to 0.3 for a big and thick amosphere, 0.4 to 0.5 for a between rocky and gaseous planet, 0.6 to 0.7 for gas giants and 0.8 to 1 to brown dwarfs.

About correcting the X spectral stars: Delete the formula of X spectal stars and put a new one that permits black holes appear. And put the black hole models or a texture for it can appear. I think it would be very cool if I could create a system of planets orbiting a black hole behaving like if it would be a REAL star.

About adding two spectral types of stars: Because green and violet stars also exists and it would be 8) ***VERY COOL*** 8) adding these two new stellar classes: E and H type stars. The E type is for green stars and H for violet stars. I could create a system orbiting a E3V or H2V star. This also would be very cool. But the problem is that I don't know if these stars are hotter or colder than the Sun.

About support to put stars in the same distance of other galaxies and support to put much more distant planets to their stars: This also could be implemented in the next version of Celestia. Astronomers detected a planet too far from it's star that Celestia simply don't accept to put the planet in that distance. It's a good idea to put a support for more distant planets to their stars. And it would be 8) ***VERY COOL*** 8) to put a support that permits to create stars very far away from the Milky Way.

This is all the ideas I have for making Celestia a ***MUCH*** better program.
One day, Celestia will have too many real features that I will think that I am really in space and lost in it, seeing incountable number of stars in front of me. Using full screen it will be much better for my eyes and imagination.

Imagine using Celestia with all features that have in the real Universe. And imagine this real universe having other incountable and other real systems, not only planets with a single star, but having multiple stars. Imagine Celestia with an option of switching on and off the flying mode. If you want, you can fly free in space and anywhere. And also in speeds higher than the light speed.

I imagine Celestia with all these real features and having beautill and detailed images.

I imagine visiting an alien world seeing real textures if it like Earth, not only visiting this world, but also seeing real mountains, lakes and models of trees, animals and cities with cars, buildings and people walking.

Celestia definitively will be the best and the most indicated astronomy program, not only because of the very detailed graphics, but also because it is very easy to navigate in space. I know that the guys of NASA use Celestia for educational activities.

But the problem is that with all these features Celestia will occupate at least more than 300 Mb on Hard Disk. Mostly Harmless occupate around this size in my Hard Disk.

I think that Chris will aprove all my ideas or at least some of them to put in the next releases of Celestia.

Chris, I apreciate Celestia very much, because it gave me ideas of what would like an alien world. Continue developing the best astronomy program I've ever saw in my life, the Celestia program.
And because of this I am making a cool alien system.

And in my vision, one day Celestia will turn into a simulator program.

Many thanks for your attention.

Can we PLEASE have a "Feature Requests" forum where people can post things that they would like to see in Celestia, but have no intention of implementing? It looks like any business that is going on is drowned in a sea of "You know what would be really cool..."

People, it takes a really long time to put even simple things in the program. It's not like the devs need "idea people" becasue they are just not creative enough and wish someone would give their skills direction. I don't mean to be rude, but this is getting kind of exasperating.

Well, the blurb for this board is "General discussion of Celestia, including help and feature requests."

Plus the fact that they are called "feature requests" rather strongly implies that they are things that people want to see but can't do themselves (otherwise they wouldn't be requesting it, would they?)

Besides, if you want to develop anything yourself and are looking for help with that, then surely the place to discuss it is on the Development board that is set aside for that purpose, no?

hell yeah it does I friggin spent 4 damn hours on 2 lines of code to get a camera to point at something! And the bit about ideas I flow like the niagra with ideas but when I try to put them in I spend a month and look back and wonder was it really worth it lol...It was cool when I thought of it but the pain of putting it to work makes it more like a 9 to 5 job...Oh and I speak of my own project not Celestia....for those who dont know...

Its all cool though, I personally agree I would like to see alot of whats mentioned in Celestia...

Just a heads up I know Chris is rewriting the star handling code...I believe he will be implementing multiple star systems here soon...I think with multiple light sources...Also you will be able to supply a custom texture for each star and I think even color in the (stc?) file...Without having to mod it in an ssc file....I for one am happy to hear this! No more emissive planets as stars...

As for green stars...you will have to make them yourself as thier fictional....
I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!

I am boggled by how much you folks have already accomplished with Celestia. I try to comprehend the math and physics you use for this simulation, which I know is also used for the real stuff, and quickly surrender to being happy that at least You know what you're doing.
With this idea of future requests. This sounds like asking for a picture of the Higgs Bosun, and they haven't even starting building the accelerator to try and find out. I just continue to be amazed that my computer doesn't go up in smoke, when I try each new addition you submit. I can almost hear it grunt each time I start up Celestia.
I salivate for more stuff. But I also want to see Celestia stay real. It isn't an arcade game.
Damn good job, folks!

The Feature Requests Collecting Thread

Please read The Feature Requests Collecting Thread and ADD not yet requested features (one per post) and link to this Topic!!!

Else i fear the ideas go lost with time!!!

Thanks, Dominik
