Celestia can't be launched after Windows update

Hi everybody.

Recently, I ran a Windows Update and installed Service Pack 2 for Win XP Professional.
After this procedure Celestia couldn't be launched anymore.
Before the update everything worked properly.
Now I installed the new Celestia version 1.3.2, but it also can't be launched.
Is this a known problem with Windows?
Has anybody an idea what's behind it?
Thanks

Andy

Andy,

I'm not having any problems running Celestia with XP SP2. I'm afraid you'll have to be much more detailed in describing what's (not) happening. Do you get an error message? If so, exactly what does it say?

Andy74,
Most likely the Windows Update Wizzard updated your video drivers to Microsofts version. This will not allow Celestia to load. I can almost garantee this is the problem. Always reinstall your video drivers after any kind of a service pack update. Also always, always do not install any video drivers from Microsoft. They are always nuetered to work with Direct X and to not work well with OpenGL. This is because Microsoft wants OpenGL to disapear and they are hoping that you won't be smart enough to go your video card chipset maker for the real drivers.
I hope this helps.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.

Wow, Don. You got it! After installing the drivers everything works again as usual.
Thank you very much for your great help.

I had the same problem after installing Service Pack 2 too. Getting the ATI drivers for my system worked, but it took some googling to find the driver install because it was an older mobile card, a mobile Radeon 7000.

Hey, how about that...

Discovered an advantage to *not* having a graphics card.

Installed SP2 on my Windows XP Home system, and had *no* problems
of any kind. Piece of cake!

Take care, Bob
