Nope. Like you, I can't recall actually meeting in person, anyone that I've met on the net.

As a general rule, on ANY web site, whenever you receive any kind of permission denied, not allowed, or other non-404 errors ...

* Right-click the link and select the option to Copy the Shortcut
* Paste the Shortcut into your browser address bar
* Place the cursor at the end of the URL (address)
* Backspace over the filename (deleting it) until you get to a "/"
* Press Enter

Well, I did know that. However, I still can't get the file. The "50megs" site doesn't like my browser for some reson, because that trick works on all the other sites I've tried it on. I can even see the file in the directory, but if I right click on it to save, it denies me. Hmm...
Thank you,

christoria

What happens when you left-click it? If it's a non-displayable file, the browser *should* pop-up the Save / Open dialog box.

Don,
Many people can't seem to get this file, myself included. I did download it a long time ago when I added it to the catalog, but no one is maintaining this site anymore. If you can get it, will you please upload it so we won't have this problem anymore? Thanks,

Joe

Dave,

As much as I *hate* to jump on a band-wagon, I think "Joe's Place" - a much more
appropriate name, don't you think? - would be the perfect place to put
your textures and add-ons. The one example I have of your work - the Neptune
texture - was a beautiful piece of work in my opinion. Share the rest of your
stuff with Joe. That's what he wants anyway...

Did you two actually shake hands once???

Good Doctor,

I have never shaken hands with the aformentioned Mr. Goyette, but I would
trust my LIFE in his hands. I know what he looks like, he knows what I look like,
and - better yet - we can almost predict each other's thoughts on a given topic.

We have discussed things in intimate detail, and these things are the kinds of
things you *only* discuss with good friends. If Mr. Gee would ever like to come to
Dayton, Ohio for a visit, my home is at his disposal. Hell, he can have my wife
too if he wants her.

Unlike most of the intelligent MIT graduates involved in Celestia, Mr. Gee and
I share the common man's approach to this great resource. If he wants something
from me, he has only to ask. Ain't too many of the people I've ever met for
whom I would offer *that* accommodation.

You ARE the Man, Mr. Gee.

Take care, Bob

Hello Don, I tried all the solutions you kindly have given in your post, but no results.
The Star Trek Universe SSC file is not accessible in any way, so I think that the link has gone. 8O
Anyhow, someone has this file and can put it somewhere in order to allow downloading or, if it's not so big, can send me by e-mail, please?
This would be very appreciated, now that thanks to the very fast new site I have downloaded in a short time ALL the files of the Star Trek Universe. :D
Thanks a lot.

Congrats to all involved, the site looks great. Really attractive design, who's done the artwork?

I've already stolen the background image to make a splash screen (for Celestia of course). Here is what I have for now:

If the Celestia Motherlode artist could simply add a 'Celestia' title to it that'd be great. My artistic skills are close to non-existant.

Thanks for your kind words, although I am surprised you didn't complain about the lack of a nav menu in Konqueror  At any rate, this will be fixed in the next revision.

Runar Thorvaldsen, rthorvald to his forum friends, is responsible for all the eye-candy on the site. He is a genius in my opinion and does this stuff in his sleep. I believe this is an actual screenshot from a system he has been working on.

I am sure he would love to make a splash screen, but he is on vacation for a month and cannot be reached. You might also want him to come up with an original design. I flipped out when I saw a quick once-over he did on the original site, but it was nothing compared to what he came up with for the published version.

Cheers,

Joe

Hi alphap1us!
I have started contributing to Celestia sending to your site a small program capable of generating Random Globular Clusters.
I'd like to see it among the "utilities" :D (now it's listed in "celestia/creators/piellepi")
BTW I'm VERY happy of the opportunity to be able to publish my works since I have no internet site

But I wanted to congratulate for the site: it's great! 8O 8O

I have a small question: when I connect, I see the picture (that Christope stole :D) , but suddenly it disappears , covered by other objects.
Is it my browser (M$ IExplorer) or is it a choice?
IMHO the picture is very beautiful and shoud remain visible all time!
Thanks again
Pierluigi

How could I complain? I wasn't aware I was one!

Any thoughts on why I can't access this site beyond a request for a username and password for the Celestia working directory?

Grant,

The working directory is for use by volunteers who are actively working on the web site. Is there some task you would like to do on the web site?

If yes, please use the Contact Us form and select the "I want to help!" Category. In the Message area, explain what it is you would like to do. Then, you will be contacted by a Celestia Motherlode volunteer with further information.

Don, the problem seems to have gone away as mysteriously as it arose.
All I did was click on the http://celestiamotherlode.net link in the first post on this thread - I saw the Motherlode home page, and then a pop-up immediately demanded a user name and password. I needed to Ctrl-Alt-Del my way out of IE to extricate myself. Hasn't happened before, happened the four or five times I played with it last night, doesn't happen today.
