Soyuz Mesh

Post #1by ElPelado » 05.05.2004, 10:26

Someone in the Orbiter Space Flight simulator comunity made a Soyuz model with very nice textures, but its not an addon yet. Some time ago he uploaded the model for us to see it, and I wanted to see how it looks like in Celestia. The model was in 3ds and the textures in dds. Put it in Celestia and I only see the model, no textures. Changed the textures to jpg, same problem. Checked teh size of the textures: all textures are 256x256 or 128x128...... What is going on???

You will have to post the URL of the model so that someone can investigate, but...

Celestia has restrictions in the designs of 3D models that it can display which might cause this. In particular, it cannot draw models which have different texture images projected onto different facets of the same mesh.

I ran into this limitation while desiging the panorama cubes. I had to redsign the one that holds 6 separate images so that each side was a separate object within the model.

However, Celestia can draw objects which have different parts of the same image projected onto different facets of the same mesh.

I dont full understand what you are saying. Do you mean that if i apply many textures to one object, each texture should be in a different obect and not a part of a big obect?

You can apply textures to objects or groups of objects. Post the url. Orion has made an excellent Soyuz but it wasn't made available.

Crickey!...this has got to be one of the best models so far!...Ugly ship...great model. Can we pass it on? Is it a mod from Orbiter or orion's model? I love it! Could the author have ago at Gemini?

Have only looked at it in Deep Exploration...will try in Celestia soon.

bh,

Are you aware of the models of Gemini and Mercury created for Celestia by Shrox?

http://www.shatters.net/celestia/files/shroxclassic.zip

Are you looking for something more detailed than those?

(I suspect you are, but I just wanted to be sure you're aware of them.)

Hello Selden, I'm using Shrox models in my "Space Conquest" cel file, but I'm interested to more detailed Gemini and Mercury models, do you know of some of them?
Thank you :D

Gaah!...the dds textures for this model won't work with Celestia...I'll try and fix these later...I may also try and apply these to Jacks excellent Soyuz model.

Andrea,

I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Those are the only free models that I know about.
I suspect Shrox may have some commercial models available, though.
