help seldon,chris anybody

Hi been using latest version of celestia, and all versions for about 2 yrs. This is a wonderful program and enjoy it to the max.

Have been having minor problems thru all versions and have been trying to bring my computer up to the highest level possible to run this great pgm.

My system is running at 2.4 GHz
Video card is:

Vendor: Matrox Graphics Inc.
Rendered: Matrox ICD for Parhelia
Version: 1.3 open GL
Max simultaneous textures: 4
Max texture size: 2048

1gig of hyper x
No other programs running in background.
Running monitor at 120Hz

Problem is when ever run the demo, I get occasional fraction of a second hesitations as the program runs. Most noticeable when Saturn comes forward.

Thanks would appreciate all help possible.

Azgard

I guess this happens when Celestia loads the necessary textures - does this still happen the second time you run the demo?

Maybe demo.cel could use some preloadtex-commands...

Harald

P.S: Would you mind using more appropriate subjects? Thanks.

Thanks for your response
Yes it continues to happen almost in the same spots on mutable runs

Just a thought ... Have you updated your Matrox drivers to the most current version? Most recent cards/drivers support OpenGL versions higher than 1.3 as your post says.

Would you also tell us what version of Celestia you are currently running, what OS you are running, the OS version, the amount of RAM in your system and in your video card?

Thank you.

Looks like a VERY NICE system! :D

Here is the Matrox page for drivers ...
http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/latest/home.cfm

It looks like the current Win2000 driver is version 1.06.02.005, which is a couple of versions newer than you are reporting ("Matrox Parhelia AGP 4x, 128mb, latest driver 1.06.00.99"). I would suggest downloading and installing this driver, which *should* bump your card's OpenGL support up a notch or two and become compliant with Celestia's desire for Open GL version 1.4.

Let us know how it goes!
