Feature Request: Magnitudes for DSOs

It'd really help a lot if the same kinds of visible magnitude selection and effects that are available for stars and planetary bodies could be made available for Deep Space Objects.

The Quasar Addon that I just created could be made to run quite a bit faster, I suspect, if there were some way to select how many of them are rendered. Drawing 16K points is frustratingly sloooow.

A reasonable good feature request.
This would also help for galaxies and nebulae, which are much to bright in the celestia sky.

I agree that this is a very important feature. Playing with Partiview has also got me thinking about using symbols for displaying deep sky objects--perhaps some extension of markers, where they can be scaled based on distance or magnitude of the object.

Chris,

That sounds like it could be very useful. Especially if drawing them can have very low overhead!

One of the current QSO catalogs includes almost 50,000 objects. And, of course, the full SDSS catalog will have millions of objects...
