Happy New Year! I am bored!

Post #1by Don. Edwards » 02.01.2004, 06:59

Hello everyone and a late Happy New Year!

Well the weather hear hasn't been the greatest. We mist having a white Christmas by 3 days. I am basically house bound for the next few days. We got one and a half inches of snow on Sunday and then it froze up real good all over the roads on Monday making driving around not a good idea. I live in central-west Oregon and this kind of weather isn't that common, at least the few years that I have been here. All my snow chains are buried in our storage unit so you get the idea. We got another three inches today and are expecting nearly the same for the next couple of days. So I guess it is time to dig into my Celestia hard drive and see what things it is time for me to work on. I think I am going to load up all the textures for HD 28185 and start to clean things up and plug-in some newer textures I made for it. I am thinking of maybe adding another 150 asteroids to its asteroid belt as well. When I re-release the add-on you will have the choice of either using the 150 or the 300 asteroid versions. I have put this thing off for well over a year now and I think it is time to dust it off and get it finished. Of course I will take a little time to work on the 32k Earth texture as well. I work on it at least twice a week. I have also started working on an all new Northern Winter-Southern Summer cloudmap at the 8k level. It will of course have smaller versions as well as the new shadowmaps for those that want to use them. I also plan on doing some big changes to the Celestia Hub as well. I possibly have access to some off shatters.net storage so that the hub can grow to be a central point in which I can host textures and add-ons from other creators and artists. I will keep you posted on that as I find things out.
All in all I hope we all see 2004 being a great year for everyone and for Celestia and everyone working on projects for it. :D

Don-
I think it would be a great idea for you to host other people's images and plug-ins on a "Don's Picks" type site. That sort of one-stop shopping would be really nice since the choice of textures and plug-ins can be overwhelming. You are on of the most prolific contributors so if you could pick out the cream of the crop for each object and have them all in one place, I think it would be a tremendous addition to the Celestia community. Keeep on keepin on.
Joe
