Celestia 1.3.0 freezes on Win2K

I am running Win2k sp4, with a Matrox Millenium G450.
I am also running the virtual desktop eDesk. I am on an
amd athlon 1600+ with 512MB ram.

I've run Celestia twice, and both times it has frozen the PC to
the point that ctrl-alt-delete does not work. The cpu activity is
frozen at max (like it seemed to often be while running this app).

Seems like a cool app. WOuld be nice if there was a way to plot a
course thru the galaxy past each planet & orbits around a few
planets/moons to show the kids.

I'm no expert so, bear with me; How much RAM does your graphics card have? Do you have any background programs running when you open Celestia? Hit Cont, Alt, Del then Task Manager and Performance, compare your available resources on the Resource meter before and after opening Celestia.
Is your HD near capacity?
Have you tried disabling the Virtual Desktop?

Are you connected to a network that uses DMA (Direct Memory Access)?
Also, is your Task Scheduler set to run any BackUp or other pre-scheduled programs?

There are a lot of possible causative factors that may be involved and the forum would be better equipped to help with all the information that you can provide.:|
Hi guys. Listen, they're telling me the uh,
generators won't take it, the ship is breaking apart and all that. Just, FYI.
(Athlon X2 6000+ Dual Core 3Ghz, 8GB DDR2-800, 500GB SATA 7200RPM HD, 580W,

32MB

My card has 32MB on it.

They would not have been running. I tried it just after rebooting &
it still locked up after a few minutes of playing around. I had 350MB+
of RAM available. I do have an HP office jet with many (default) support exe's running, but I cannot easily remove them.

My system generally runs for 25+ days (24*7) between reboots or crashes, so this is particularly less than satisfying.

Maybe I should try it on my dual 1GHz mac?

I know exaktly whats wrong :D

Your using windows 2k SP4, that service pack makes celestia buggy,

So there are two things that you can do:
1.Reinstalling celestia sometimes helps
2.Upgrading to SP5 will fix it
