i don't know if it's possible to do this, so this could be taken as either one.
i'd like to see a simulation of what i would see in the night sky while standing on earth at a given lat/lon and at a given point in time.
i tried to do this by using selecting an object, specifying lat/lon and going to an altitude of 2 meters, then using seat-of-the-pants camera positioning, but i quickly became disoriented and wasn't even sure which direction i was facing.
i envision a mode that allows me to specify a position on earth's (or another planet's) surface, and then easily rotate my point of view in different directions along the horizon as well as angling up into the sky, both manually and by setting a direction and angle.
i could see this useful not only for users who want to simulate what they would actually see in the sky from a point on earth, but also those who might want to fantasize what it would be like to see, e.g., an "earth-rise" from the surface of the moon...
does anyone have suggestions on how to accomplish this with the existing software?
might this "mode" find its way into a future version in an easy-to-use way?
thanks!
