How to fix bumpmaps in 1.3.0

Post #1by Star Lion » 01.11.2003, 01:24

If you have an older version of celestia, copy the files from the "Shaders" folder from the older version to the newer versions "Shaders" folder, this will make bumpmaps work again

Star Lion?

Can you explain this to me? Please?

I originally downloaded Celestia 1.3.0, and do not have an older "Shaders" folder. Do I have to download 1.2.5 in order to get the bumpmap function to work?

I tried everything I could think of to get the bumpmaps to work on my machine, but to no avail. I finally, just got rid of them, since I thought that bumpmaps were simply for PC's equipped with powerful graphics cards. Am I in error?

Thanks, Bob

Bob,

I wouldn't bother with 1.3.0 - it looks really primitive when you compare it with all the new stuff that we've got now (at pre11).

If you haven't got it already, you can here: http://www.celestiaproject.net/celestia/files/ ... 1pre11.exe

Okay Mr. Higgins  You guys just will NOT be happy until I get Pre11 to work on my machine, Willya?

I'll download it again, and see if I can wrangle some more use out of it. I *do* have to download it again don't I? Even though I already have a copy on my machine, doesn't Pre11 get updated frequently?

Never mind, I'll just wait the hour it takes me to download it again. :( i.e. - 56k dial-up modem.

Thanks for the advice. I'll see what happens this time. At least now I have a little more knowledge about how to fix the things I don't like.

Take care, Bob

Ahh!!! 8O :D

No you don't have to download it again, I thought that you didn't have it before now! :) When there's an update, it gets posted as a new Prerelease with different number. (Although pre11 is the last before we get 1.3.1 final)

If 1.3.0 is the last one that you have which works properly, use that of course! Having it running smoothly is probably better that having all the new stuff, but crashing every few minutes...

Dear Bob,
pre11 was released as an exe only http://www.shatters.net/celestia/files/celestia-win32-1.3.1pre11-exe.zip a much smaller download if you had the previous version and wanted to upgrade, or if you think it may be corrupted and want to try again. Usual safety warnings apply...

Jack and Guest...

I HAVE re-downloaded the program, and I'm much happier with it now. I seem to be discovering a number of bugs, but I've managed to overcome most of them.

Thanks for the advice.

Take care, Bob
