Eclipses in Mars

Post #1by ElPelado » 21.10.2003, 15:25

I have seen a picture of a Solar Eclipse in Mars by Demios. Can we have this in Celestia? In the eclpise finder Mars does no tappera with the rest of the planets, why?

I don't think it is possible, Deimos is too small. It is rather called a transit.

However Deimos can be eclipsed by Mars shadow.

The shadow of Phobos can be seen on Mars's surface. It's close to Mars so the eclipses are frequent.

Phobos's numerous eclipses would be a truely interesting (and indeed alien) aspect of living on Mars. Those pictures really show it well, too.

Very cool.

Hey, Rolf - your screenshot shows the sub-Mars hemisphere of Phobos pointing away from the Martian surface. How did that happen?

It's actually a shot from Orbiter...not quite as accurate as Celestia for axis of objects such as non-Luna moons. The new version might have cleared this up...just released.
If not, I'll bring it up with the designer. Good call.

Cheers,
Rolf :)
