There once was a topic about the inverted normalmap on nvidea grafikcards.
I owne on, and the normalmaps are inverted in teh celestia version 1.3.
due to a very tiny ISDN bandwith, i cannot afford it to download a whole bunch of new textures, without knowing if they run the right way, or not.
So is there a possibility to implent inverting the normalmap.
I think, there are many normalmaps out there, witch are the wrong ones for the one or the other grafikcard.
switching the normalmap modes
Hi,
This was an old bug of Celestia and special version 1.3.0 doesn't work correct with any normal map. It's solved since version 1.3.1pre3. I recommend to download the latest Celestia version.

If you have an old normal map (there should be only my 4k moon normal map) you can invert with an photo editor (Photo Shop, Paint shop pro, gimp, ...) the red channel of the normal map.

Jim,
In another thread you also told us to invert the red channel in your normal map, During this weekend, I tried either with photoshop or with paintshopPro. Unfortunately either There is not such obvious command or I did not find it (paintshopPro) or it was not clear for me what to do (photoshop)! What means "invert" a channel, complement the value to e.g. 256 i 8 bits ? . If possible, be kind to tell me in more detail the op?rations since I am not accustamed at all to texture processing processes.
Thanks
MB

Hi MB,
I can't unterstand your problems but I will try to explain the steps in Photoshop. To invert a channel means to reverse the values of this channel (255 -> 0, 0 -> 255, 127 -> 127 ). Select the red channel and press 'CTRL + I'. That's all.
Ok how is a single color channel selected ? First look if the layer/channel/path window is open. If not go to the window menue. There should be a point like 'show path window' or so. If the path window is visible you should see the red, green and blue channel. Select the red channel by clicking on the tumbnail picture. Now the red channel should be visible (a grey scaled picture).
Paint Shop Pro has a 'split to RGB' function which open each color in a seperate window and also a function to combine these channels to a color image.
