down time

Post #1by billybob884 » 20.07.2003, 21:21

The download section of my site will be partially down for a while, something is wrong with it and I can't upload it. I've got it broken down to 2 parts, one for real files, and one for imaginary files. The real section is down. I'll try to fix it within the next few days.

Ok, I've got this fixed (hopefully). If someone will go to the "real" files page and verify this for me that'd be great. One more thing, does it seem like a lot of links on my site dont work? I haven't had a chance to really go down the list and test them, but if anyone finds broken links, e-mail me.

Hmmmm... thats weird, the server keeps deleting my page. As for the popups, thats even weirder, I don't get any. I've been going over the links, and I had no idea how many didnt work. almost half my page is dead! What really supprised me is that no one ever said anything. Not one e-mail about a broken link, and I've already had almost 6000 visits.

I have two high-traffic Web pages of links. (I think you can guess what one of them is :) )

I have gotten precisely two messages about dead links in the past 5 years, except for occasional address updates from people who have pages that I link to. The only way I've found out about dead links is going through the Web server's log files looking for 4xx error messages.

There's a freeware utility called Xenu that'll do a reasonably good job of checking links for you if you don't have access to the server's log files.

Thanks! Thats actually really helpful. Now if there was only a program that would find new links to the file  .

Ok, I had a little free time today (ok, actually like 2hrs) and got the number of "bad" links from half the page to about 15. I'll upload hte page, but the server will mostlikely delete it again, I still cant figure that out. If anyone out there is experienced in html and wouldn't mind checking it over for maybe something that would cause the server to delete it, pm me and i'll mail it to you.

One final update and i'll leave you guys alone  . The server has decided to accept my file, for some reson, and now the page is up, and hopefully will stay up; although I probably just jinxed myself. Anyway, here is a list of some of the links/files I need:

Geostationary & High Eccentricity Earth Satellites (Satellites.zip)

Global Star & Iridium Satellites (Constellations.zip)

Monster asteroid.ssc data file with more than 7000 asteroids (asteroid_IMPS.zip)

Trimmed Down Version Of Above File, With 405 Bodies More Than 50 KM Radius (asteroid_IMPS_50km.zip)

Orbital Data For Many Big Asteroids (asteroids.zip)

SSC File For Comets (Comets.zip 53KB)

Also, most of the "Imaginary" files aren't working anymore because they were linked to bruckners site:

A "Planet X" For Our Own Solar System (planet-x.zip)

An "Earth" For Each Day Of The Year (earth365.zip)

BIG Earth, Moon, and Mars (bigearthmoonmars.zip)

Cloud Texture (Two 4K's, One .png, One .dds) (New_Clouds-2-13-3.zip)

Flat Earth (flatearth.zip)

Mars With Canals (mars_with_canals.zip)

More Textures For Extra Solar Jupiter-Like Planets (gasgiants.zip)

Ring for Venus (venusring.zip)

Solar System For 18 Scorpii (18sco.zip)

Textures For Extra Solar Jupiter-Like Planets (Gasgiants_Dedwards.zip)

Tidally Distorted Moon Texture (Volcanic_moon.zip)

TMA-2 Object & Space Station From 2001: A Space Odyssey (2001.zip)
