Textures

I've tried downloading other maps of the planets at higher resolutions than the default maps. When I try to use them they don't seem to work unless I alter their size to that of the old maps, thereby losing the resolution. What am I doing wrong ?

P.S. I've also tried the hi-res Earth .dds file : that didn't work at all.

I believe the .dds files only work with Geforce and Radeon cards.

Regarding the other textures you have downloaded from the web try resizing to match any of the following dimensions:

2048x1024
4096x2048
8192x4096

I downloaded a weird sized texture once; something like 10000x5000, and I had to change its size to one of the above before it would work in Celestia.

Also I believe Chris, the programs developer, once said that a video card of 64mb+ of memory would be required to use 8192x4096 texture.

I hope the above helped get your new textures up and running with the better resolution you were looking for.

It does very well with my Geforce2 64Mo using the BigEarth.dds

but don't forget to modify the solarys.ssc file.

Marc.
