hi Calculus
can u check for a phenomens that happened at 1000 AD ?
well, after I managed to install Celestia into my Linux-rig, I realized that I can put dates from 0-...~
Linux & NVIDIA & Celestia is the perfect triangle I ever seen !!
could Linux beat Calculus ?
In 1000 AD you could see
- 2 solar eclipses on Apr 27 and Sep 30
- a transit of mercury on the sun as seen from earth on Oct 20
- 4 lunar eclipse on Mar 22, Apr 21, Sep 16 and Oct 16
Well nothing very peculiar!
If, by this post you tried to make me post new Celestial Phenomena, you missed your goal. (I still have some of them in stock, tho).
However, look at this earlier post of an interesting phenomenon that took place in 755AD

and enjoy Celestia!

Tracking and Following are native functions of Celestia.
I didn't put Jupiter behind the moon, this is just the way Celestial mecanic works and Celestia renders it perfectly (almost). I just need the correct POV (point of view) and FOV (Field of View) and date/time. To get the strobe effect, I take as many shot as I need and combine them into one picture.

i did some pictures like this(i know the way, with the paint shop pro), but i didnt get nothing really good. its too difficult to put the jupiter that is behind the moon, with out "touching" the moon.
can you tell me exactly the moment of the eclipse that you did? cause i use windows, and i dont have dates vefore 1970 or somthing. so i have to use the J,K,L commands. and i cant search for the eclipse. so can you give me the extact moment??

ElPelado,
If you look carefully at Calculus' screenshot you can see the exact moment when he took it, which is 23/12/755 AD at 20:25:01 UTC.
Here's a vid of the same transit:
