What is the name of that game? (Nautics?)

Post #1by Turbinator » 26.05.2003, 18:21

I used to play a game that has a name similar to Nautics or maybe that is the name... anways, I played it 4 times in total.

But now I really want to play it again and cant find the website. I did try Google, but had absolutely no secses finding it.

In this game you pilot a ship around all the galaxy discovering planets and life.

1) when you say "discovering life", what kind of life can you find? because as far as i know, in the planets there are only rocks and vegetation(thet is a kind of life).

2) the graphics are very very VERY bad. celestia is 99999999999999 times better.

3) the stars in that "game", are real stars??

You're probably thinking of Noctis. Here's a link to the site:

Well... I have to agree, I've never really found any life (I think I saw a bird once) but it is there, I assure you.

Although it's low res, it doesn't mean it can't be stunningly beautiful at times. Have a look at the screenshots on the website.

It's not the Milky Way galaxy, but it's not trying to be realistic.

Noctis V will have nicer graphics, hopefully.

I dunno, it looks a little too sci-fi for me, although if you took out the whole eating thing, radiation helmet, ect. and threw in a few real stars, I think it'd be pretty cool.

Here's a Noctis gallery that didn't come up as a blank page:

4) The user interface is also terrible. At some point I gave up out of sheer frustration because it was too difficult to do even simple things - something that's never happened with Celestia or Orbiter.

Yes, it is verrrry confusing. There is a document that comes with it that makes an attempt at explaining the controls, but still, it is way too much to remember.
