I'm Back! Well, sort of....

Hey, folks...

It's been a long time, and life has sort of grabbed me, yanked me about, and kept me from here (and much of the online places that I used to frequent) for far too long. But I've come to a sort of self-realization, and have decided that I need to get back into my old habits.

So I'm trying to reacquaint myself with Celestia. I've downloaded 1.6.1, and I've downloaded a few random add-ons, but I've a ways to go before I'm ready to even attempt any sort of new content. My goal is to resurrect my ArcBuilder project, and towards that end I'm looking for whatever new add-ons are available. I'd like to concentrate on the newest Solar System maps, extrasolar planetary data, and some of the old favorites, such as Rthorvald's stuff. There was also someone, Something Edwards, I think, who had done wonderful add-ons for the Ice Age Earth, a terraformed Mars, and others. If anyone can direct me towards any of these, or any other actual scientific add-ons, that would be great. And tutorials to get me up to speed....

There's SO much I need to get caught up on! Anything helpful would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway... it's great to be back! I may not be a common sight for a while, but I most definitely will be around.

Thank you!

Hey, welcome back!

As for the Don Edwards addons, he ragequit a long time ago (which I think you already know about), but I have some of his addons on my dropbox except the terraformed Mars, but I do have his TF Mars addon on my machine nonetheless. :)

I myself won't be able to create a whole lot of content myself since my primary laptop died a few months ago, so I'm stuck with my old 2008 machine, rendering Celestia almost useless since it suffers from the highly aggravating "bright red planet" syndrome, regardless of how up to date the graphics drivers are. :(

I wish you a good and long back !

For all memories : http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/fic_arcbuilder.php

Thank you for that! Heck, most of the folks here inspired ME.... It's going to be fun and interesting seeing what the latest version of Celestia can do now, and how I'll need to adapt to take advantage of it.

I had almost forgotten about my Motherlode stuff! Give me enough time, and I'll be going through and revamping all of those add-ons....

that would be Don Edwards

for "actual scientific add-ons"
see Celestial Matters

Ah yes, Don! Figures I would forget such an easy name. As I recall, he was here, then gone, then here, then gone. Does he have anything anywhere?

Thank you for the link! I'll definitely coast through the site over my weekend.

Yeah, I remember him leaving a couple of times under cloudy circumstances. Honestly, I never paid much attention to what he was mad about; I had always hoped he would make some of his stuff available, simply because I loved his work. In my ArcBuilder setting, both Mars and Venus are habitable, and I know his Mars project was looking spectacular. At any rate, I'll be starting all that from scratch, and it will be a long project.

Hey John... welcome back...I remember thee!

Yes, I'm not so active here these days, I just about finished with modelling altogether, altho pleased with the NASA effort to my shuttle.

When I get a new mac I may well start over, I get such a bad performance on this mini and I no longer do win.

I often wonder how some of the old members are getting on, Don, Rass, BillyBob, Jack, TERRIER ect.
regards...bh.

I'm trying to remember, but didn't you make an add-on that featured a Stanford torus, or some other kind of habitat?

Models are going to be one of the more difficult things for me to recover. I used to have a truly huge archive of 3ds models, but they've all been lost through various computer crashes and such. I'll get there again, but it'll take a while.

I take it that none of those "classic" members still post? I remember that Rass had already disappeared when I was still active, and of course Don came and went and came and finally went.

HOOOORAYY!!!! Welcome back, Bienvenue and Namaste!!!! I wondered where you had gone. (The last thing I remember reading from you is over at Extrasolar Visions II.) I've been trying to make my own ArcBuilders addons, without much success, though. So it is good to have you back.

Thank you! I've actually started peeking at EVII as well. I've not commented on anything yet, but I'm making it a habit to look at it, this forum, and a couple of others throughout the day. Of course I am finishing my weekend, so my available time is about to be cut down...

Tell me about what kind of ArcBuilder add-ons you're working on! I'm in the process of reinventing the setting, with some pretty hefty revisions.

I've dabbled a little on an addon for XI Scorpii...(aka Headacheland,) 12 Ophiuchi, and Gliese 511.1. (Rather random collection.) Part of the inspiration came from the OLD ArcBuilder site, which had a bunch of cool LunarCell pics.

I assumed this was you...

Yes it was! I attempted to restart the ArcBuilders a while back, but life still had other ideas for me. This time around though... I'm trying to get my new timeline nailed down today. Once I get that done, I'll be getting the Local Neighborhood worlds in order.
