General discussion about Celestia that doesn't fit into other forums.

Non-ML hosting of multiple large addons?

Post #1by PlutonianEmpire » 21.10.2012, 07:25

As the title says, are there any good places where multiple, large Celestia add-ons can be hosted, for (legal) distribution to the public, preferrably for free, besides the Celestia Motherlode?

I know the ML has to conserve bandwidth, and I also don't want to upload an addon only for it to repeatedly get rejected for the most trivial of errors because of an over-bearing, over-aggressive checker (no offense to him), especially if it's a large add-on.

Any suggestions? :)

EDIT: I think I previously mentioned having a data cap (can't remember if here or via e-mail discussions with some members, or both), but sometimes, I get to visit family members who have unlimited internet. :)

It's not false...

How many are there of developers since the arrival of these rules a year ago ?
2 or 3 (I'm generous, I included last updates) ?
Where are guys of Arcbuilders (2012-03-03), Orion arm (2010-02-02) and all others ?

Just because it does not work on Linux ! :(

To be clear, who complained about the Credit, or textures ? ...
We want names and therefore evidences ...

This would be the beginning of transparency, right no ? :)

Maybe it's that CML has grown too big for a one-size-fits-all approach to accepting addons?

An idea I had last night was perhaps the organization of addons could be split somehow, like, lower-quality amateur addons would go in one category, itself containing some sort of disclaimer or warning about the low quality or sloppiness ("use at your own risk", etc), and the more well-organized well-prepared higher-quality "professional-looking" addons in the other? :)

That would seem fair to me. There was much that had been done in my first add-on in ignorance. While it got justifiably panned, I still didn't know how to do some of the things that were supposed to be corrected...a problem I've since rectified. However, I'm reluctant to release anything for fear of getting harsh criticism without helpful suggestions. An amateurs' section would be a good idea...

Normally, your country is young and had its independence in 1905.
Although recent polls* give 49% for Europe and 51 against (where we find Kristoffer),
it is very tight... but we digress of subject. :(
