Probably this problem was already treated in a previous thread, but I was not able to find it throught out the "search" item:
Trying to reproduce the " old" events reported in the Selden pages
I was not able to tune the date before 1752! That happens with any celestia version 1.25, 1.3, CVS...

It's a problem with the Windows interface. You can get around it by running time back quickly and then slowing down and stopping at the appropriate date, but it's a real pain.
Chris promised to take a look at it a while back - for my money, it's by far the most annoying defect in the Windows program interface, closely followed by the impossibility of entering a time in anything less than three stages.

It takes some of the fun out of tracking them down yourself, but I created another gallery page that has Cel:// URLs for most of the pictures. They'll show you almost the same views. (I had trouble getting to exactly the same places, myself!)
