NGC 2442 / NGC 2443

Post #1by LordFerret » 29.08.2011, 06:34

When I view NGC 2442 I see two galaxies (Celestia v1.6.1). Is this a result of the catalogue listing the two arms of this galaxy separately? My guess is 'yes'. Anomaly/bug/annoyance?

Thanks for reporting this! The reason is connected with the fact that NGC 2442 = NGC 2443. So two supposedly identical renderings are superimposed:

It seems there were two coordinate sets involved (possibly from the merging of two catalogs) that were NOT exactly identical. This is always possible with measurement data...I will investigate and let you know.
