Celestial Phenomena: 22 celestial bodies

Post #1by Calculus » 06.03.2003, 19:34

I made a snopshot of 22 celestial bodies with respect to their relative sizes. It goes from the biggest Earth and Venus (radius>6000km) to Ceres (Radius 456km). All moons, asteroids and planets bigger than Ceres and smaller than Earth are present (except some obscur Kuiper belt objects)

Thank you Paul, that is exactly what I had in mind.

Something about seeing them all together like that, just makes the solar system seem stranger -- all these multi-colored, multi-sized balls circling around each other. I also consider their variety interesting, and not at all intuitive. It isn't obvious to me why there would be so many different kinds of planets and moons with such obvious differentiation.

I guess this image accounts for pretty much all of the solid objects in the solor system above a certain size. Everything bigger than Earth is gaseous, right?

Tim
