Same as the picture topic, but with videos instead. ;)

And yes, they can be edited.

Didn't see this thread, or would have posted Abstract Reality here instead. Still, great minds think alike, huh?

I released another music video using Celestia -- Heaven's Hammer, "Space Walking". The music is slightly odd, but consistent, and the space flight is a bit jerky at times (it's called "guessing...") Still, I'm rather fond of this one, and this time I tried to include all the credits at the end -- not an easy task! Anyway, you can watch the video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H3zdK7yu8Q

Once I get a few other projects completed, I may come back and help get a user-friendly Celestia navigation project started. There may already be one out there, but I haven't come across it to-date. :?: Anyway, be well....

In honor of Gene Roddenberry's birthday, I just posted my own Celestia based scifi epic.

Tell me what you think:

Since you were asking...

I think your credits to Celestia are quite meager. Given that this video relies strongly
on Celestia, writing merely the two "cryptical" words

SpaceModel:
Celestia

as the last of many credits, is not very cavalier...

What do you think would be appropriate? I've got Celestia in the description of the video, the tags, the credits and I posted the link here. I just added a link to Celestia's homepage in the description. Also worth noting that there were a couple pieces of hardware and software that I had to pay for, and therefore got no credit at all.

If there's a standard, norm or more, I'm happy to comply, I really do appreciate this great piece of software.

I'm hardly an expert, but.... Generally, when you release something that contains or uses material not of your making, you include credit for it. If you own it (computer hardware used, software you created, video, photographic, audio, music, etc.), you don't necessarily have to list it. Some people list equipment they own because they are either paid to do so, or they earn a discount somewhere else by doing so. Other times, it's because they're proud of their equipment -- "An Apple can go through a Window, but not vice versa", for example (computer joke.)

In my case, since Celestia makes up for 95%+ of the video, I give Chris Laurel and the gang a lot of credits at the end of my videos (well, the 2nd one anyway -- the first directs the viewer to my homepage, which has a post with those details.)

You don't have to get ridiculous with it -- I mean, if I was to list all the people who made my videos possible, I'd be listing the first computer pioneers (Captain Grace, for one), the ENIAC, the PDP-11 mainframe, the IBM 360/370 mainframe, the IBM PC, Microsoft, plus all the programmers of all the software I use whose expertise made it possible. Even George Lucas would be listed there, as he helped develop the standards for our current digital video software. I've probably missed some important sideline items here, as there are just too many people who were involved. Youtube only lets you have a 10 minute video. Even with high-speed credits, I couldn't display all the names in that time.....

Yeah, that sounds like a decent approach.

This is a simple test about how Celestia will look at Youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPIxDu2TtTs

The video look good enough but i think that stars are a bit too dim and for some reason, Earth look like a watermelon. :?

Excluding the stars, the video was excellent. Some things that might help:

1. Make the stars shown as scaled discs (under the Render menu, or CTRL-S to cycle)
2. Increase the Magnitude Limit to where you get more background stars than usual (use the "[" and "]" keys to go up and down.)

What I am about to tell you is based on my experience alone -- I am no expert.

There are 3 things which seem to have the most impact on the quality of videos created using Celestia:

1. Speed/Abilities of video card (to include S-Video/RCA outputs if to external recorder)
2. Processing power of computer (speed/operating system)
3. CoDec used to record (or quality settings on external recording equipment, such as Digital Video Recorder)

Of course, resolution/detail of the textures used, background programs running, and other computer-specific items can affect overall quality, especially if recorded entirely live.

For DVR recordings, make sure you are using the highest quality settings the recorder can handle.

If you are recording direct to disc on the same computer, try the different CoDecs to see which one seems to give you the best quality. Uncompressed isn't really an option, especially if you want high-resolution, as hard drive speeds (on computers more than a few years old, like mine) are simply too slow to keep up. Xvid (http://www.xvid.org/)seems to be the best Open Source video CoDec available, but that is my opinion based solely on this 2001 dinosaur I'm using.

As with virtually any program, trial and error is generally the best way to find out what works best for you. Very few people actually have the exact same hardware as the programmers and testers, so you gotta experiment....

Earth didn't look bad to me -- it just needed more visible stars in the background (for definition contrast.)

Is this another Blender project?
Deimos looks very nice in the video.
You're adding some very cool models and textures here.
