Is there any way to up the "brightness" or magnitude of galaxies (I'm assuming that magnitude is appropriate to apply to galaxies)?
I want to zoom way out and get an idea of the "superstructure" of the galactic clusters and "webs" that are formed by the strings of galaxies. Doing this with the labels turned on gives somewhat a sense of this, but being able to temporarily increase the magnitude would make it much easier/visible.

Just because you can do something with a computer, doesn't mean you should.

This is something many of us have wished for for some time (myself especially). Chris has mentioned that he plans to add a galaxy brightness feature soon.

A quick way to get brighter, more detailed galaxies is messing around with your graphic card's brightness and contrast properties. For nvidia... Display Properties > Settings tab > Advanced, then <your card name> tab > nView display mode > Device Settings > Color Correction.
As you can see, it's not perfect, but it looks nice.
