Language

Post #1by jairo_amaral » 22.06.2008, 12:03

I have just installed Celestia, and its menus showed in Portuguese. How can I select the language back to English?

Thanks.

I believe that cannot be easiloy chosen. (Assuming you use Windows.) The installer chooses the language according to the Regional Settings in Control Panle. You can set that to English and reinstall.

Thank you. I changed the country and reinstalled, and it appeared in English. But when I changed the country back, it turned to Portuguese again.

That's sad. Is it hard to make a language selection option? or it's just because nobody though someone would need it?

If it is not too much of a code change I would also strongly vote for the possbility to change the language either with a menu item or perhaps with with a config entry.
But I would prefer it, if it would be changeable during Celestia running with a menu item.

Just my 2 cents.

This can be done in two ways:

1- Just delete the 'locale' folder.
But then, you won't be able to switch back to Portuguese if needed.

2- Open your text editor, paste the following code, and save it as celestia_en.bat.

Code: Select all

set lang=en
celestia.exe
Place this batch file into your Celestia base folder.
Then, just launch celestia_en.bat when you want Celestia in english,
or the default celestia.exe when you want it in Portuguese...

You can also remove or rename the locale folder in your celestia folder. Since Celestia cannot find the language specific files anymore it will default back to English.
