Crashing Moonbus

Post #1by Goonster » 23.04.2008, 11:46

I have just downloaded Frank Gregorio`s excellent 2001 spacecraft pack. Everything works fine until I try to look at the Moonbus. The first time I tried switching to it Celestia stopped working and had to closed down. When I restarted Celestia and went straight to the Moonbus the problem seemed to have cleared itself and I could look at it as normal. So I just thought it might be a one off and forgot all about it. Today the same thing happened.I had a look at the other spacecraft first and when I tried to look at the Moonbus Celestia crashed again. On restart I went straight to the Moonbus without any problem.
I know I can see everything in the add-on but the crashing issue is a bit puzzling.Has anyone else had this problem or could it just be a result of me having integrated graphics instead of a dedicated graphics card? :?

Goonster,

I don't know anything about your graphics setup, but I can vouch for the integrity of the Moonbus add-on itself. I have had that installed on my system (see details in signature) for over 6 months now, and have never had any problems with it.

Thanks, Bob

I guess it must be my graphics then. This laptop tends to struggle a bit with 3D.I have Google Sketch Up and that works but won`t display properly in 3D. I have Intel (R)945GM Graphics Accelerator .While its OK for most things it does have its limits.

Goonster,

Have you installed the most recent drivers from Intel?
They're available at http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product ... uctID=2301

Note that they only support OpenGL v1.4 with some extensions, not v2.0.

I`ve never installed updated drivers as I am too sure about fiddling with the graphics. As a fairly new user of computers the last thing I want to do mess things up.I`ll check out the link anyway. Thanks.

Thanks for the new model my friend, but do you have the texture files to go with it?
I love the detail, but when I looked at the cmod, it was referring to textures that I just do not see anywhere.
Don't we need these too?

EDIT: Never mind... I found them in your 2001jm.zip file. Thanks VERY much for the add-ons. Great stuff here. :D
Thanks, Bob

Very, very cool add-on linuxm@n...
Others please be aware that you DO need the textures from linuxm@n's 2001jm.zip file in order to view the new model with all of its goodies displayed properly though. If you get this file, simply copy the textures folder to the same directory you're using for your Moonbus add-on in the extras folder.

Again, this is a very nice, very detailed model.

Thanks very much for this update. :D

EDIT: Wow... I just installed your whole 2001jm package and this is simply an amazing add-on. WOW again... I don't know if this is ready for distribution or not, but the entire package is... simply magnificent. I started the Blue Danube music, then ran your Blue Danube (and other) script(s) in Celestia. The trip through the 2001 journey was fantastic. Please make this available on the Motherlode when you get it finished. Your own pipe is somewhat slow, but the package is worth waiting for.

Many, MANY thanks from a lover of all things 2001. :D

Will I have to uninstall 1.4.1 first or will it automatically replace it with 1.5.1?
