Mie and Reyleigh scattering

Post #1by ncc1701d » 20.04.2008, 00:04

Hi all
I read some info about the .ssc files refering to Haze color. It said:
"Atmospheric haze colour. Only works for Nvidia graphics cards. In Celestia v1.5.0 one can use Atmosphere Mie and Reyleigh scattering parameters instead, which work for all graphics cards which support OpenGL v2.0."
Is their a good script or addon someone can recomend that I could try that would indicate weather I am using an openGL2 supported graphics card as well as shows off the Mie And Reyleigh scattering effects? I know my vid card is OpenGl but it doesnt specify OpenGL version 2.
Maybe a tutorial covering specifics how celestia can use Reyleigh?
I am assuming if I knew how, I could tweak those values base on some NASA data and if at the right spot on mars accuratly create a blue sunset correct? Iam hoping for some accurate simulation as opposed to guesswork as to the colors.
thanks
steve

When you run Celestia, you can click on the help menu and then OpenGL Info. This will tell you what version of GL your card supports. When you're at earth, hit "Ctrl plus v" to toggle through the different render paths. When you reach the Open GL 2 path you should see the atmosphere scattering effects if your card supports it. Earth, Mars, and Titan have these atmospheres written into the solarsys.ssc file.

I think there is Mie and Rayleight scattering missing from Venus atmosphere parameters.I can see the atmospheric halo on Earth,Mars and Titan;but not in Venus.Do anyone know the values of the parameters?
Venus also has a dense atmosphere and I think it will also have a atmospheric halo,or not? :?

Yes, definitely. When viewed from Earth Venus' cresent is more than half the planet, especially around inferior conjunction.
