Phew! I should have checked. But either way, I guess we shared some sensitive info that some hackers desire by accident?

It's worth remembering that the source of an internet attack being in "Country X" does not mean it was done with the consent or knowledge of "Country X." I had someone try to hack into my e-mail account from Hunan province a few years ago. It doesn't mean the People's Republic of China, or the Hunan provincial government is attempting to read my e-mails.pirogronian wrote:Lafuente_Astronomy wrote:But either way, I guess we shared some sensitive info that some hackers desire by accident?
In fact I still cant imagine, what China may hope to achieve by ddos attack, except temporary disabling a service... Reason? Never strictely obvious.
No need at all. Even if the Chinese government does anything, it will just throw Celestia out of GFW, just like YouTube and Google, to make Chinese users only can visit with VPN. Some people with ulterior motives will use Chinese computers to make puppet machines. Some time ago, SpaceEngine website was also attacked by similar DDoS attacks. The IP address also came from China, but in fact, it was not made in China at all. It's most likely the Chinese government.
