New name on composante A

Post #1by jujuapapa » 16.02.2020, 18:41

Hi,

I saw these datas from standard nearstars.stc file :

Code: Select all

Barycenter 3821 "Achird:ETA Cas:24 Cas:Gliese 34:ADS 671"
{
   RA 12.27625
   Dec 57.815278
   Distance 19.388
}

"Achird A:ETA Cas A:24 Cas A:Gliese 34 A:ADS 671 A"
{
   OrbitBarycenter "Achird"
   SpectralType "G3V"
   AppMag 3.46

   EllipticalOrbit {
      Period          480
      SemiMajorAxis   24.99  # mass ratio 1.11:0.60
      Eccentricity    0.497
      Inclination   152.19
      AscendingNode   6.96
      ArgOfPericenter 179.63
      MeanAnomaly     82.80
   }
}

"Achird B:ETA Cas B:24 Cas B:Gliese 34 B:ADS 671 B"
{
   OrbitBarycenter "Achird"
   SpectralType "K7.0V"
   AppMag 7.21

   EllipticalOrbit {
      Period          480
      SemiMajorAxis   46.24  # mass ratio 1.11:0.60
      Eccentricity    0.497
      Inclination   152.19
      AscendingNode   6.96
      ArgOfPericenter 359.63
      MeanAnomaly     82.80
   }
}

How can I give a new name on the composante A of this barycenter ?

I tried with a 'modify' without success... :fie:

The objective is to see the new name in the sky from Earth or another star...

Regards.

Unfortunately, it looks like you'll have to replace newstars.stc, deleting all of the current entry for "Achird A".

Then when you provide your own STC catalog, Celestia will replace the onscreen name for "Achird A" by whatever name you put first in your new Star (or Barycenter) definition(s).

TY Selden for your return.

Damned, I discovered an anomaly... or an impossibility (on celestia 1.6.1). :cry:

Hi,

Another question of same type than the previous :
How can I update the apparent magnitude of Alf Tau B ?

My test doesn't work (launched with gaia catalog) :

Code: Select all

Modify "Alf Tau B"
{
    AppMag 10.0
}

Regards.
