Search function in the new Celestia 1.7 64 bit 11.28 version
I can't seem to find any search function in the new Celestia 1.7 64 bit 2017.11.28 version.
Is it possible to search for a star using only the name of the star?
If it is possible, how can I do that?

selden, please let's think about what needs to be changed in the Celestia QT dialog boxes. In general, the menu is normal, the settings are completely taken out in a separate dialog. But maybe something is missing.
When you think about it, write me a personal message, and let me know what you think should be added to the QT menu & dialog boxes.

Unfortunately, the menus of the Qt version of Celestia are incomplete and confusing, including duplicated entries. Someone will have to spend some time with them to carefully organize the options and to include all of the functionality available in the previous menu systems.
I'll try to make a comparative analysis of the Celestial catalog in Celestia v1.7.0 beta c analog in Celestia v1.6.1.
To determine the advantages and disadvantages of The celestial catalog, to offer to make corrections and additions to it.
Celestial Browser in Celestia v1.7.0 beta consists of 3 tabs (See Menu/View):
- Solar System
- Stars
- Deep Sky Objects
In the screenshot below heaven opened Celestial Browser tab Solar System:
In Celestia v1.6.1. Solar System and Stars are in Menu/Navigation. In the screenshot below heaven opened Solar System:
Differences:
- In Celestia v1.6.1 there is a button [Go to], In Celestia v1.7.0. she's gone.
- in Celestia v1.7.0 there is an additional column "type" of the object. There is a check-box [Group objects by class].
- In Celestia v1.6.1 и in Celestia v1.7.0
- In celestia v1.6.1 and in celestia v1.7.0 sorting by object name is not provided
=======================================================================
In the screenshot below Star Browser In celestia v1.6.1:
In the screenshot below Star Browser In celestia v1.7.0:
Differences:
In Celestia v1.7.0 many innovations compared to Celestia v1.6.1:
- The number of stars displayed has been increased from 500 to 1000,
- Additional selection criteria:
- multiple star
- barycenters
- selection by star type
- The marking of stars and changing the color of the name of stars are provided.
- No [GoTo] button]
- Rounding values in the distance column is incorrect.
- Different values in the "App mag" column the Sun.
- Marking stars and changing the color of the name of stars does not work.
- Sorting stars by name does not work correctly (this problem has already been fixed).
In the screenshot below Deep Sky Objects In celestia v1.7.0 (In celestia v1.6.1 such service is not!):
To addition, there are shortcomings:
- No [GoTo] button]
- Marking stars and changing the color of the name of stars does not work.
- Sorting stars by name does not work correctly (this problem has already been fixed).
================================================================================
All of the above, of course it is necessary to correct!
I have additional suggestions for the qualitative improvement of The celestial catalogue. But it's in the next message.

The Solar System tab is not designed well enough compared to the Stars and Deep Sky Objects tabs.
To improve the quality of the Solar System tab:
Sketch # 1 for the Planets, Dwarf Planets, Moons, Minor Moon, the Lagrange points and others (except for the listed types in sketches 2,3,4):
Sorting order of objects:
Sketch # 2 for Asteroids
Sorting order of objects:
Sketch # 3 for Comets
Sorting order of objects:
Sketch # 4 for SpaceCradt (+ Components)
Sorting order of objects:
Attention:
Physical characteristics and Orbital parameters (for sketching 1,2,3):
I ask in this thread to express my opinion on the improvement of the Celestial catalog.
To improve the quality of the Solar System tab:
- all the objects should be divided into four groups:
- asteroids
- comets
- spacecraft
- everything else:
- planets,
- dwarf planets,
- moons,
- minor moons,
- Lagrange points,
- other
- add to the header of each table the physical characteristics of the object and the orbital parameters (list see below)
Sketch # 1 for the Planets, Dwarf Planets, Moons, Minor Moon, the Lagrange points and others (except for the listed types in sketches 2,3,4):
Sorting order of objects:
- Objects in sketch # 1 are not sorted!
- Objects are arranged in the form of a tree tree.
Sketch # 2 for Asteroids
Sorting order of objects:
- Objects in sketch # 2 are sorted
- by name
- for any of the physical characteristics of the object and the orbital parameter
Sketch # 3 for Comets
Sorting order of objects:
- Objects in sketch # 3 are sorted
- by name
- for any of the physical characteristics of the object and the orbital parameter
Sketch # 4 for SpaceCradt (+ Components)
Sorting order of objects:
- Objects in sketch # 4 are sorted
- by name
- by the time of the start or end of the operation of the mowing apparatus.
Attention:
- All thumbnails must have a [Go To] button to go to the selected object.
- In all sketches, the "Markers" section should work.
Physical characteristics and Orbital parameters (for sketching 1,2,3):
- Radius, km
- Aphelion, au
- Perihelion, au
- Semi-major axis, a.e.
- Eccentricity
- Inclination of the orbit
- Orbital period, days
- Rotation period, hours
- Albedo
I ask in this thread to express my opinion on the improvement of the Celestial catalog.

Hello,
Sorting lists:
in Celestia 1.6.1, we could sort the different columns by clicking on the title of the column except the name. Is it the same in Celestia 1.7? Did you add the sort by name? This would be very convenient because the number of objects is more and more important.
Goto:
How does this function work when an object has been selected? There is no more Goto button in the browser? Is it enough to double click on the selection?
Physical and Orbital Parameters:
It is true that object parameters could be displayed.
Navigation / View menu:
Browser menu change is not very important. I think Navigation now matches only navigation commands.
Overall, Croc's presentation seems relevant. And it would be necessary to know why differences of measurement appear between his test in English and his test in Russian (for the distance of Sol the difference is enormous).
Congratulations to the programmers!

Unfortunately, the menus of the Qt version of Celestia are incomplete and confusing, including duplicated entries. Someone will have to spend some time with them to carefully organize the options and to include all of the functionality available in the previous menu systems.
Analysis of the Time Panel and the Guides Panel:
Advantages the Time Panel and the Guides Panel:
- The icons make it easier to manage time.
- The abbreviations on the Guides panel make it easy to control the settings of the kind of objects,
- Duplication of existing control functions.
Hindsight:
- The arrangement of new panels in the second row under the Menu,
- The abbreviations on the peneli are not well understood,
- The view settings do not cover all the options for setting the kind of objects.
I propose the following changes:
Note: The [Orb.2] - orbites à la décoloration.
Briefly about the changes:
1. Transferring the Time Panel and the Guides Panel on the menu line.
2. Time Panel is located on the right side of the Menu line.
3. Guides Panel replace Panel Set Render (see Sketch)
4. Exclude the Full ecran option
5. Exclude duplicate options in other dialog boxes

The next step in the modification of the Celestia 1.7 Menu is the removal of duplicate entries, adding the necessary additions, fixing bugs and other improvements. The results will be displayed graphically separately for each Menu tab.
1. File tab:
2. Navigation tab:
3. Time tab:
4. Display tab:
5. Bookmarks tab:
To be continued...

I heard his new book would be released in November but I cant see where this is said from any official source ANYWHERE. So where are you guys getting this information from?
Version Celestia 1.7 is the upgrade version of Celestia 1.6.1.
How to install 1.7? You need to install a clean Celestia 1.6.1. and copy the update files to the root directory, which are located at https://celestia.alexell.ru/
