MS Word 2007 tries to open browser from embedded cel:URL

Hi everyone. I could use your advice.
A school district who wants to use Celestia in the classroom installed the program fine on a Windows computer. When they click on a script file (.cel or .celx), Celestia opens and runs well. That means that their version of Windows has correctly associated .cel and .celx file extensions with Celestia.
However, when they try clicking on a cel:URL hyperlink embedded in text inside an MS Word 2007 document, MS Word tries to launch Internet Explorer instead of using Celestia. It appears that MS Word 2007 is not associating those hyperlinks with Celestia and thinks they are internet links. Since they are not, MS Word gives an error message saying the "webpage cannot be found".
Can someone please advise how to work around this. Since MS Word 2007 is commonly in use, hopefully the solution has been identified. I'd be grateful for your help.
Thanks in advance
Frank
