Lua Edu Tools fatal error on start up

Dear Friends,
I'm running Celestia 1.5.1 on a MacBook Pro under Mac OS X 10.5.2. I downloaded and installed Vincet Gianguilio's Lua Edu Tools 1.1 as per the instructions. However when I start Celestia I get the error message "Fatal error. Error opening LuaHook "luahookinit.lua'"
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Welcome Banjo-Jim,
did you paste the 'luahookinit.lua' file in your Celestia root folder and
add this line to your celestia.cfg file:?
Code: Select all
Configuration
{
LuaHook "luahookinit.lua" # <-- Line to add
...

Thank you for replying, Adirondack. Yes, I did paste the 'luahookinit.lua' file in your Celestia root folder and
add the line "LuaHook "luahookinit.lua" # <-- Line to add" to my celestia.cfg file. I still get the "fatal error opening luahookinit.lua and have to exit Celestia.
Do you have any suggestions for me to try? Thank you.
Jim

Hello Jim,
The Lua Edu Tools v1.1 have been successfully tested on Mac OS X, so they should work on your system.
The 'luahookinit.lua' file may be corrupted, so you may want to try downloading and installing the package
once again.

Hi,
I have downloaded and installed Lua-Edu-Tool in the way described in the Readme file.
However I cannot see anything on the Celestia screen, neither in windows-mode nor in full screen.
The activation key Shift+i does not seems to work, it turns on/off the clouds.
I am running Celcstia 1.6, on an iMac 20" 2.4Ghz Intel2Core 2GB memory 1TB disc, using SnowLeopard 1.6.1.
I have also tested this on a Win7 RC64bit running under VirtualBox, and here the toolbox can be seen on the right side of the screen, only in windows-mode, the full-screen option terminates Celestia.
The graphic virtual-pad is not shown.
Can you please inform what I do wrong?

Hi ?ivind,
The Lua Edu Tools are displayed only when both of these conditions are true:
- The screen width is superior to 790
- The screen height is superior to the Toolbox height
So, please make sure you're running Celestia with a minimum screen size of 800*600

Hi Vincent,
Many thanks for a quick answer.
My screen is set to 1650x1040, and I?m running with OpenGL 2.0.
The Celestia program is located in a folder "Celestia Resources" with the "luahookinit.lua" file in same.
The "lua-edu-tools" folder is inside "extras" folder, with the "lua-edu-tools.lua" file inside this.
Seems to me that the Celestia program does not distinguish between upper (shift) and lower case letters, the shift+i and i does the same (turn clouds on/off).
Any other hints?
Regards.

?ivind,
Can you read any error message in the console (visible with "~") ?
Also, if the Lua Edu Tools are correctly loaded at Celestia start up,
the console should display "lua_edu_tools" twice just at the beginning
(use up/down arrows to navigate once the console is displayed).

Vincent,
I cannot see any reference to "lua-edu-tools" in the console window, and no reference to the folder "extras".
There are some messages refering to "extras-standard", some messages about wrong file-type for images-files, and settings of creating ordinary textures with 1024x512 and 2048x1024.
Are there any log-file that I can look at?

OK, that means that the tools are not loaded at Celestia startup.
Are you using the standard Mac OS X package or do you compile your own version from source?

Vincent,
I?m running the binary version, not compiled by myself.

I apologize for the intrusion, but in one case is referring to as "lua-edu-tools" and in another as "lua_edu_tools". Does it mean something?

Sorry, the typo is my fault, the folder and files are correctly spelled with underscores (_). It is only in my message that I have used hyphens (-).

?ivind,
The Tools have been successfully tested on Tiger (OS X 10.4).
So the problem may come from the use of Snow-Leopard (OS X 10.6).
Could you please test the compass, which is a lighter addon I made recently
and which is also using the Lua Hook process ?
Here you'll find a download link:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14426You'll need to remove the "lua_edu_tools" folder before testing the compass.

Vincent,
I have downloaded and zipped the compass folder into the extras folder, and removed the lua_edu_tools folder (into the Desktop).
After typing ctrl+G the surface of earth is shown, but alas no compass.

You need to use ctrl-G AND ctrl-F to activate the compass. In other words, you need to be very close to a planet's surface, and activate the Alt-Azimuthal mode, to see the compass at the bottom of the screen.

Do you have the LUA language libraries? Of course, I do not know how they are structured on Mac; just a thought.

Is it possible that there's an incompatibility with LUA or the Tools and a fully 64 bit OS, like Snow-Leopard ?

I have no clue about how Lua is linked on Mac OS X.
Maybe Chris L. can help here...
