Two panes, same observer position

I wonder if it is possible to have two panes open, and keep the two views from the same observer position. I mean this: when I use Celestia to fly around Saturn for example, I like to have both the front view and at the same time look back. That is only possible with a split window, if the observer positions in the two panes stay the same. Is it possible to link them?

I hope that I made myself clear, and that somebody know whether this is possible or not.

You're talking about, if you look "up" in the first pane a certain amount, the second pane looks "down" a corresponding amount as if the camera was mounted to the back of the observer?

I guess that's what I mean, although I cannot interpret "a certain amount" properly here. But that may be due to the fact that English isn't my native language. I would have said: You're talking about, if you look "up" in the first pane in a certain direction, the second pane looks "down" in the opposite direction as if the camera was mounted to the back of the observer?

Two years ago I wrote a CelX script which splits Celestia's window into 6 or 9 panes, showing 90 degree fields of view in all 6 directions around the viewpoint. The panes all update as you change the viewpoint of the central pane. Their updates are relatively slow, since Celestia has to compute 6 or 9 times as much as when it's showing only one viewpoint. It should be possible for you to modify the script to show only two panes.

Thanks a lot. It works fine and looks beautiful. I will work on it to get the two-pane view. That gives me something to do during the summer holidays.

You're very welcome.

I was pleasantly surprised that it still works!
