Hi
Still playing around and trying to get used to the functions etc.
My problem... I will be wandering around space and then my Solar System browser list will go blank, my Goto Object box won't work and neither will my Select object box.
I can still fly around, but lose the ability to search for targets.
My Star browser list still stays available however
Am I doing something stupid?

Re: Lost in space
Which version of Celestia and what operating system are you running?
How much memory does your computer have?
What graphics hardware do you have? How much memory does it have?
What Addons do you have loaded?
This is not a problem I've heard of before. I'm wondering if Celestia might be running out of memory.

I don't know... but perhabs it is a newbie problem...
If so, boy, you're not alone. Then we're already two now...
The very first times I've opened Celestia I was just as stubborn like you(?). With an obstinate refusal to read the Celestia documentations; e.g. the very good CelestiaUsersGuide written by Frank Gregorio (http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/creators/fsgregs/CelestiaUsersGuide1-5-1.pdf). There are others...
But maybe someone with a better knowledge about the english language will give you here and now a better answer. Only so much:
The Solar System browser works only if either you are in our solar system or in an other star system.
But I apologize if I was wrong with my assumption (...and I really hope you won't have a bigger hard- or software problem).
Best Regards
Michael

Re: Lost in space
Celestia 1.6.0
Windows 7
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P7450 @ 2.13Ghz 2.13 Ghz
RAM 4.00 GB
64 Bit operating system
About 10 various planet bitmap updates
I have had no problems with 'speed' or anything, so I think the system is coping fine.
So if I am out in the middle of nowhere (am am reading the manual - honest!)... how the hell do you get back to earth when you can't find it in any list, and the search function won't find it

Re: Lost in space
To return to the Earth, type the following command on the keyboard:
h3g
h = select home (sun)
3 = select 3rd rock from the sun
g = go

Are you selecting interstellar targets? (stars, galaxies, etc?). You won't be able to search for solar system objects if you don't already have a solar system object selected (or most recently selected).
i.e. start at Earth. Click on any star. You should be no longer able to select anything in the solar system from the search box (and the solar system browser if I'm not mistaken).
Current Setup:
Windows 7 64 bit. Celestia 1.6.0.
AMD Athlon Processor, 1.6 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

Re: Lost in space
If you are too far out from the solar system then the solar system browser will come up blank. I think 1 ly is the limit.
