NGC 1999 is looking great, but I'm getting noticeable banding on the nebula.

If I use V380_neb.jpg it looks better, having a smooth gradation (no transparency of course).

Any ideas on a way round this one?

I have pixel and vertex shading, turning them both off does speed things up (a little), but that rather defeats the object.
