Re: Compass for Celestia 1.6

Thanks for this nice add-on. I use it all the time :D Boux, You're very welcome! :) Happy you find it useful. Please let me know whether it runs fine on your system. No problem here, Vista 64 and a heavily customized Celestia source code. My main problem is to keep my own version in phase with the ...

Re: Saturn E and G rings add-on

Thank you, you are welcome :) The possibility to switch this kind of add-on on/off via celx is a great feature. Celestia badly needs a true add-on browser though. Well, I'm an heavy addons creator/user, and I don't feel I need an addons manager at all. To me, the scripts menu IS the addon manager. ...

Re: Celestia loves my ATI graphics cards. Bugs nailed!

Granyte, Please try this new build: http://www.quickfixcomm.fr/Celestia/celestiaSVN4912.zip I may have left inadvertantly some aggressive optimisations in the previous one. I am also thinking as a possibility that the changed code - which is plain standard Windows API stuff - may simply have exposed...

Re: Celestia loves my ATI graphics cards. Bugs nailed!

I had that same problem with ATI and fixed it by setting the windows theme to windows classic. Tried this too, and also disabling desktop composition, even with some more C++ code checking graphic card vendor ID at runtime. They are ugly - litterally :) - workarounds which do not solve both issues ...

Celestia loves my ATI graphics cards. Bugs nailed!

Work-arounds/bug fixes for ATI/Vista Hi all! Celestia does not seem to like some configurations with ATI graphics cards. Under Vista, for many users - laptops notably - , this translates into: Windowed mode: - top of opengl viewport is hidden by the menubar - viewport is shifted up by the height of ...

It will work.
Any 32-bit app will run on Windows Vista, be it a 32- or 64-bit version of the OS.

Re: Something wrong with constellation labels [fixed]

Some serious UI work is definitely necessary to make Celestia better suited for the classroom. But, as Fridger pointed out, the SVN version is not recommended for classroom demonstrations. Here's the fix for constellations. Change this line in labelConstellations: if ((observer.getOrientationf().co...

Re: Something wrong with constellation labels

Forgot to specify that this is with a fresh build of svn trunk. Standard 1.6 is OK though. Really a very nasty bug. Last night we had a really very clear sky here. I brought a laptop and large marine binoculars out in the garden to show off relatives how Celestia was accurate. Went to Earth surface,...

Something wrong with constellation labels

Hi there... There may be a nasty bug with the placement of the constellation labels. Here is a view with the correct labelling: http://www.quickfixcomm.fr/Celestia/Correct.jpg When the view is rotated by more than 90 degrees here is what is happening (180 degrees rotation in this case): http://www.q...

Hello, all! Here is what I get (Vista64 SP2 - 1920x1080 HDTV display - Q9550 3.7 Ghz) 1.6 --> SVN4864 362 --> 346 250 --> 256 434 --> 447 235 --> 230 340 --> 381 Looks like the mileage is varying. I am running ATI cards, not Nvidia btw. Maybe at such high fps number we are somehow getting cpu-limited

Re: No visible left click menu

This really sounds like an ATI driver bug, likely one that's specific to Crossfire configurations. Celestia is showing the right-click menu using the conventional Windows calls--nothing tricky at all. My guess is that Crossfire in full-screen mode is optimized for games, which always draw popup men...

No visible left click menu

I have just installed two 4870 1GB in Crossfire mode in this system, to play with. Latest drivers and Catalyst Control Center (Vista 64). All OpenGl and DirectX apps are running uber fast and fine as expected, at 1080p resolution. One exception though: Celestia 8O Well, it runs very fast with Crossf...

Re: Advice on Celestia and Vista on new computer

Frank, Celestia should fly on such a machine. Do not believe those who say that it will be crawling as compared to XP. This is mostly an urban legend. I would expect a steady 60 fps speed average from your config. First of all, Celestia should be installed in C:/Program Files x86 as it is a 32-bit e...
