Object Marker request (and others)

Hi all, I haven't been here for a while, but I've been using celestia extensively for my science fiction writing for years (it's mainly just a hobby). Through out this time some ideas have come to mind that would make it easier for people who use celestia in the fashion that I do. 1. The marker: I r...

Re: 1.6 Display problem when switching from full screen towindow

I'll have to check those bands out. I've done similarly with some Tchaikovsky or Rachmaninoff. :D
You have to turn off all names, markers, orbits and info for the full effect to, of course.

Re: 1.6 Display problem when switching from full screen towindow

That's "good". At least now we have some support for the it's-an-incompatibility-between-celestia-and-snow-leopard-rather-than-a-bug-per-se hypothesis.

Re: 1.6 Display problem when switching from full screen towindow

Hi Chris, My mac is somewhat over 2 years old and it's also a MacBook Pro. Yeah, Celestia looks beautiful before I switch to windowed-mode. Here's the progression: Starts off in windowed-mode: good Switch to full-screen: still good switch back to windowed-mode: no good :( But, of course, if I restar...

1.6 Display problem when switching from full screen towindow

Hi all, I was using Celestia 1.5.1 for a while and I just noticed 1.6 is available. I downloaded it with hopes that a certain bug might have disappeared. Though, I think this "bug" is actually a conflict with my new operating system. I'm using Mac OS 10.6.1 (snow leopard). Attached are scr...

Eclipse Bug (macosx version 1.5.1(0)

Using the eclipse finder, if one selects the sun as the object for an eclipse to be cast on, celestia crashes to the desktop.

You guys probably already know about this, but thought I'd mention it just in case. Keep up the great work!

brushing up on my matlab code

To get myself up to full speed with matlab again I worked on some pde code i developed for the 2 dimensional heat equation. Couldn't such a mesh an addtionally mesh be called to be overlayed on top of the planet mesh in regions defined as water. Or rather a series of these meshes to act as an animat...

Re: Celestia development volunteers?

I've only just finished all my work for the semester yesterday. So I am very excited about this. I never thought I would be doing anything that would be directly implemented into the main distribution. I do not know C++,only Matlab. I do hope that I could program something scientifically pleasing (p...

Re: Celestia development volunteers?

Hmm. This sounds like an interesting challenge. But before I pursue anything, I'd like to make sure I'm not stepping on anyone's toes. t00fri, it sound's like you've done some major work on globs already... If that is so, then it probably wouldn't be appropriate to do the same thing in matlab code.....

How to find Lagrange points???

I can't for the life of me figure out how to find the lagrange points mathematically. I know you must analyze things in an inertial frame, but then what? I can add three forces. How do i calculate that lagrange points though?? This is just a curiosity of mine.

matlab

Hey, I've wanted to contribute to celestia since i learned about it. I can only program (pretty well) in Matlab. Is there any use for matlab coders?

Re: LaTeX enabled for mathematical notation

This is great. I don't make many posts, but I'm familiar with Latex. It's the way to go for writing anything that has too look professional (that's short).

strange bug

I've found a rather strange bug. But what makes it wierd is that it's appeared so suddenly. It won't even go away when i restart the program. Apparently, the earth won't rotate. I have no idea how this could have happened, so I'm just assuming it's a bug. update...actually, none of the planets seem ...

Need more Dyamics!...plz

Would it be possible to have stars behave dynamically? Go forward in time and watch stars die in whichever way they will (depending on their solar mass)...becoming white dwarves, neutron stars, or black holes?? Or go backward in time and see a star coalesce from a massive gas cloud?? Okay, this last...

Galactic Velocities

It would be amazing if celestia was just a little bit more dynamic. I would love to see galaxies assigned their known velocities. That way one could watch as the galaxies flew apart or come crashing together if going backward in time. Why not simulate the big bang as it is known to have happened? Wo...

Need an Alt-Az Grid and a little more...

I think celestia would really benefit from an alt-az grid in addition to the celestial sphere projection. An alt-az projection would be useful for orienting oneself with respect to the their viewing location and the object in the sky. Also object info should include alt/az. What about assigning ra a...

contrast issue

Correct me if I'm wrong, but celestia is supposed to display the universe as we see it right? My gripe is with contrast. As you can see in this image there is an object (star) that should contrast everything else to black. I would really like to see contrast effects implemented in celestia. arg, i j...

Question about precession...

Maybe i'm totally missing it, but it doesn't seem like precession and nutation are included in the body movements of earth. Is there a computational reason why this is not done... I was just reading about precession for my mechanics class and thought it would be cool to see celestia show which way n...

relative sky grid

this has probably been asked already, but any chance for a relative sky grid. that is a grid to tell you the angular heights of objects relative to your position on a planet. i think using this in conjunction with the polar grid would make it far easier to find objects in the actual night sky. or it...
