Re: Celestia 1.5.0 Bugs
It's been way too long since I posted here, just busy doing other things I guess. Just downloaded 1.5.0 final and have the same problem as Guckytos. The only keyboard commands that work are zoom with "Home" and "End" and the arrow orientation keys, everything else is dead. I'm also using an older OS...

Re: XnView now writes DDS format
There must be something a little buggy with the XnView write routine, dds files saved with it can't be read by Irfanview's dds plugin. They can however be read by Photoshop and PaintShop Pro and look good in Celestia so this is no big deal.

If you wanted to operate in stealth mode you probably shouldn't have used "BrainDead".

Re: MINI TUTORIAL: Making Cloud Textures With Transparency.
Great tutorial Spiff, thanks! Another way in Photoshop to get the desired transparency is to use the Background Eraser tool. That's the way I've been making my cloud textures, but you do have to play with the settings a bit to avoid the grey cloud edge problem. I assume you can do the same thing in ...

Re: Titan's upper atmosphere: blue or not blue?
I haven't looked yet but do we know the specs of the filters used on Cassini? Is it possible the blue filer has a wide enough bandpass to allow some UV to reach the camera and be represented in the blue channel? Just a thought.

Re: Trying to help Jestr - Need program to clip JPGs
I haven't tried it but I think the excellent freeware image viewer Irfanview may be able to do this. It has Batch Conversion/Rename capability that includes image cropping and resizing in the advanced options.

Re: My Latest & Best Titan Texture for Download, NOW
Fridger's new Titan texture is soo good (thanks Fridger!) why even mess with making it an addon? Just put the texture in the Celestia\textures\medres folder, edit the solarsys.ssc file, and have it be the default Titan. Or add it as an alternate texture. My graphics card isn't the best (ATI Radoen V...

Sam,
Keeping your addons to an absolute minimum will help Celestia load and run much faster. You can drag any addons you aren't using in the presentation to a temp directory and drag them back when you're done.

Re: Any tricks to do textures with transparencies ?
Cham, Here's what I do in Photoshop: 1. Open image in photoshop 2. Set colors as foreground=white, background=black 3. click on background eraser & have the settings like this: -brush size: 100 -limits: discontigous -tolerance: Between 50% and 70% is usually the best -protect foreground: OFF -sa...

This time consuming project was "welcomed" by some users so much that I decided to cancel it. Apparently, my offer was not formulated polite enough for the taste of some.... Re: A new Titian map... contians 3 - 512x512.png's
John, the screenshots look great! But I seem to be having the same problem as Cham. 7-Zip appears to be an unconventional zip format that other zip programs don't recognize. Since the texture and normal map are compressed less than 1% anyway, could you please make the uncompressed .pngs available on...

Re: Celestia v1.3.2 & CVS: asteroid atmosphere crashes
Selden, Using your test code seems to work OK for me on my system at work. The atmospheres do look pretty whacked, kind of like a comet tail, but Celestia doesn't crash. That should be OK. I'm not sure but I believe the addon I'm using is from Rassilon, here's the corrected DSC settings: # M57 - Ring Nebula Nebula "M57" { Mesh "m57.3ds" Radius 5 RA 18.8933 Dec 33.033 # ORIGINALLY WAS 3.33333 Distance 2300 } Dave

Thought I'd chip it here with one of my favorites - Olympus Mons from the Martian surface (close anyway) with the Sun, Earth, Mercury, Venus, and Phobos in the background. Of course you'll need Jestr's awesome OlyMons addon for this. It also helps to have ambient light cranked up a little. cel://Fol...

Re: Position of Ring Nebula in Celestia?
The M57addon I'm using had the Declination in the DSC file as 3.33333 while it should be, as Selden points out, something like 33.0333. I don't know whose addon it is. There is an associated STC file for Aria and Meteraum should be modified as well.

Steve, Selden's right...he's not me . He's also correct about the source of the FlaMars VT. One problem could be that for some reason I think I changed the name from "FlatMars" to "MarsFlat", probably just because I liked it better that way. Any changes that are made must be reflected in the .s...
